Playing Empire. GFFA. Battle over Byblos.

Rebels have massive fleet, I have equally big fleet. However after making short work of initial 3 MC rush then rebels deploy at least 50 CC and I can't target them. They obliterate every ship I have and i can't target those little [beeep!]. I was ignoring my suspicions, but now I'm fully certain that CC breaking every space battle I have. I can't lock Tractor Beam, can't HVC them, cant lock with Venators Energy Blast, can't target them in any conventional way. If I do target single CC, instantly HVC doesn't work on *ANY* ship (doesn't fire), and I can't TB *ANY* ship, I can't hit *ANY* ship with Venator Energy Blast, controlling my own ships is more and more difficult (Ctrl+A selecting less and less ships every time, doesn't matter that I have full 80/80), selecting single ships is not possible. When I hover mouse I see status but I can't select/give orders...

What the hell is going on!

No mods (any mod I have is installed in separate FoC directory - DVD version)

*** going to look over CC xml maybe I will find something that doesn't belong, really gutted after finally started making progress :umad: ***

*EDIT*: by CC I mean DD-20 Gunship (no upgrades)

*EDIT2*: Scratch that (changed title). Certainly it is problem with the mod and FoC as a whole. Exception error always appear at some stage. Looks like another memory issue. I tried to apply 2GB+ "patch" to swfoc.exe with NTCore Explorer Suite, but then game never starts (demands DVD and that is about it, end of story). Hmm I have to concede Byblos and pick Mon Calamari Cucumbers one by one somehow, to reduce load on memory (<-2GB). Dang it!

My specs: i7920/12GB RAM/GTX580@2560x1440

*EDIT3*: To add few words more about the battle - ANY deployed ship from reinforcement pool is impossible to select (from smallest fighter to biggest battleship) during this battle. I can see status just fine (hover cursor), but can't give orders.

Thanks for the detailed report. Having your own units become unselectable is a performance issue... obviously not related to your RAM or GPU. It could be the processor, since I haven't experienced it after upgrading a few years back, and it's almost certainly the engine. I think I'm going to make 3.0 GHz dual-core a minimum requirement. Still, it shouldn't be this difficult for modern PCs.

Why is your memory < 2 GB? Didn't you say 12 (which FoC would cap at 4 GB)?

No my memory isn't <-2GB. Let me rephrase. I need to keep swfoc.exe process below 2GB in the Task Manager because sfwoc.exe can't address more than 2GBs.:) As for CPU, well yes it could be. Just one thing straight: CPU is not bothered by anything else BOINC/Seti is turned off so all cores available for work.

About the game from above. Had to forfeit it completely. Retreated to Corelia but AI never attacked Byblos :weird: After that ANY new built unit is stuck to first slot /moving land units into orbit doesn't work. Can't sell them, can't move them, game went AWOL. When there is space battle I see no hyperspacing sequence into sector/or panning shot over defender forces when defending. Just one giant mess. Sigh.

For your future reference, FoC doesn't run on more than 1 core so you don't need to worry about other applications very much. It's raw clock speed that seems to matter most.

I don't understand why you're experiencing such an error, but a lot of people seem to be having similar problems with GFFA so it may be that campaign at fault, or simply the scale of that campaign.

Phoenix Rising, head of mapping. Thanks to everyone who got us to the position below!

If it is a memory issue, there's some optimization I can do on space models yet for that, assuming there's spillover from graphics memory.

I know that EaW as a whole runs only on one core, but believe me, PR is totally unplayable if BOINC/Seti is running in the background. Even smallest scenarios. Only skirmish works reasonably well, because it doesn't involve calculations on galaxy view.

Anyway will switch to smaller campaigns (Yay for Thrawn Offensive :evgr: )

*EDIT*: If it is any help in solving this, uploaded last save from aforementioned game. [solid-rar archive] Basic Uploader was uploading and uploading same file over and over again, left the room for 5 minutes and it uploaded 30MB out of ~2MB file... if I could only multiply cash like this! LOL!
