You know what I really desire most from LOTR games? It came to me as I was watching one of the movies for the ten thousand time ;) . I would like not only to enter the game as Aragorn, Legolas or Gimli but also I would like to participate as a member of the fellowship. Imagine that we could go back to that time thanks to some magic trick, and enter the sotry and also take some heavy gear with us: machine guns, grenades, sniper rifles, hueys or even a Abrahams tank! Imagine someone standing on top of the Helms Deep fortress just sniping those beasts down there and helping Aragorn and the others. We could also defend the inner fortress passages with heavy machine guns. Imagine the impact of a grenade right in the middle of those thousands of orcs. A RPG could be useful taking down those attack towers on Gondor. What about a Abrahams tank drive through the battle field of Gondor? Also imagine a flight in a Cobra taking down the dark Spectres?

Does something like this exists? I would love to try something alike :)

Very interesting idea! I had this thought myself. I'm afraid I don't know of anything that currently exists like this, but I'd be willing to give it a try if I could learn the LOTR:BFME map editor. Your ingame perspective would be a bit limited unfortunately.

So you're thinking something like alternate history?

Possible storyline:

Strange-looking stone structure in a museum is discovered to be a magical portal to Middle-Earth. Runic inscriptions say how to appear at various destinations in Middle-Earth, and an eager novice archaeologist activates it. He returns days later to a news station with video of the Shire. People go nuts and of course want to help the good guys win (in the modern day BTW this is pre-9/11). Ensues a massive multinational military campaign that marches to help the men of the West and beats the bloody snot out of the forces of Evil.

To pull it off you'd need custom-made units and missions at minimum - those wouldn't be the hard part. Custom 'movie clips' would help immensely but those would be seriously tricky.

I'm intrigued. Drop me a line if you're serious. blackshadowmaker@yahoo.com

Congratulations. You just guest-necro-posted a three year old post in a wrong forum. That's quite spectacular!
