Hello,
I found my old CnC Generals Zero Hour disks (german version) and thought I give a try.
Tried to install it (Windows 7) but disc1 could not be read because block 800ish was unreadable. So I used "CDCheck" and was able to create an image of my disks, mount them into Daemon Tools Lite and install the game from the image, entering my hardly readable/bleached out CD key. Then I succesfully patched the game to 1.04
However when trying to launch the game I always get the error that I should insert the correct disk, despite disk1 and disk2 being mounted.
So I downloaded a no-cd crack, downloaded GenTool and was able to launch the game.
However when I try to log in I get the error "cannot connect to generals zero hour online". (Entering a wrong cnc-online.net password gives the error wrong password so at least he recognizes the account but then fails)
I'm running the game in WIndows XP SP3 compatibility mode and with administrator rights as recommended by the gentools faq for connection errors.
Also in the settings there are just two 192.168... local IPs listed and not my current internet IP if that's important.
The FAQ on cnc-online.net says "You can use C&C:Online so long as you haven't cracked your games." but my GenTools tells me I have a "normal game install" when I launch the game.
So now here I am and don't know on which problem I should focus on, fixing the launch without a no-cd crack or the connection issue with crack?
