The game is now available on Steam and GOG for $35.99 (special price until December 13, then it will cost $39.99).

If you enjoy playing games like Commandos and Desperados you should definitely get Shadow Tactics. And if you don't, you should get it anyway :)

There's even a free demo, so give it a try! And no, I don't get paid for this post, I'm just a big fan of this great game.

What specifications are your computers guys?

(I read it requires "Windows: Vista / 7 / 8 / 10 (64-bit)" and DX10 as well apparently, althought for DirectSound version 9.0c should do.)

Well i have quite a high end pc so im fine. Not sure how game runs on lower end pc's with lower graphics settings.

You'll need a GPU with atleast DX10.

My specs:

OS: Windows 7 64-bit

Ram: 16GB DDR3

CPU: Intel Core I7 4790K

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7950

====================

Windows: Vista / 7 / 8 / 10 (64-bit)
Processor: Intel i3 2nd-Generation 2.5GHz, AMD Quad-Core 2.5GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GT640, AMD Radeon HD7750, 1GB VRAM
Storage: 13 GB available space
DirectX version: 10
Sound card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card with Latest Drivers

A gigabyte of memory just on the video card? Bloody hell! And Win 10 will need 2 GB for itself I guess.

Does the game offer the possibility to switch back to DX9?

And I doubt it, but I guess you could download the demo to test if it will run then you wont waste any money.

Though sometimes these days game's tend to put higher requirements than what they actually need.

mobo has nForce 4 chipset and is first gen PCI-X with these:

AMD X2 2.4GHz

4 GB mem

ATI 3470

Win 7 runs OK.

The graphics card must be the bottle neck (DX 10 but not really).

BTW I have the AGP version of the Radeon HD3850 (DX 10.1) and it still plays any vid I throw at it. MKVs in 1080 are no problem. Except it's on an old computer and vids don't demand much of the rest of the system. IOW I have rarely ever bought new stuff unless I really had to. :)

I just watched most of this https://www.youtube....h?v=WLhcF8Dg9i8 and realize I'll not be playing a cartoon anyway. No need to upgrade.

turn up the volume to hear the characters clearly, as this seems to be a nice easter egg or reference to the commandos series :)

@Imp: the cartoonish look is a sensible choice of the developers, after examining a buttload of art pieces from the Edo era, that's why the bit stylized but still realistic forms with bold outlines rule the visuals. tastes are difference obviously, but i really like the style of this game, and the for me 360 rotation makes up for the questionable loss of sharpness

With cartoon I meant the jumps at 2:51 and at 2:56 in the video I link to. I expected the voice actor to do this:

I like the 3D too, absolutely yes. But I also think in DX7 (from 1999 or 2000) everything I see would be possible.

I prefer the gog version.

They continously updated the releases. I periodically check this for update my backups.

Today, I just found that they offer the current last version (1.4.4.f) in 32 and 64 bits.

I found a few screenshots that show you how the art style of the game has evolved:

@herbert3000: great stuff, haven't seen these before, thanks for posting them!

I have encountered however an early footage about the game, which was originally meant to resemble traditional Japanese ink drawings, but the dev team decided to move from this abstract and stylized visual to a more realistic looking art style.
