The good news with the latest AMD chips, they support Windows 7, despite the fact that Intel doesn't support it with their recent generation and above CPUs: http://www.pcmag.com...pport-windows-7

The only octa-core chips available this week are the AMD Ryzen 1700, 1700X and 1800X: http://www.pcworld.c...-the-price.html

The real question is, are they worth buying? AMD chips before Ryzen are perfect for budget users.

I would like buy an octa-core chip to support both Windows 7 and Windows 10. But I don't know if AMD Ryzen supports full virtualization technology even though I want to run Linux and maybe a Mac OS X 10.12 SIerra as virtual OSs on a virtual machine.

I was under the impression that AMD was on the verge of shutting down in 2012.  I dunno how they managed to last this long, but their stuff is still perfectly fine.

So I read the article reviews. It's good for multitasking, editing, surfing and general purposes but underwhelming for gaming.

What it looks like it does is give Intel a reason to give us lower price octa-core chips.

Underwhelming for gaming since games are not optimized for AMD cpus, the raw power is amazing.

Software patches to make the CPU do better? --> not so much: http://www.pcworld.c...get-better.html
