My idea for the BUGFIX mod, is:

Give all melee-DEDICATED squads (like assault marines), a x1.25 to x1.5 speed modifier when charging.

Note that Space Marine Termies, already have x1.5.

 

 

This is a BALANCE modification that belongs to BugFix.

And I think it is time to make ALL weapons to USE the terrain features in mind (not to fire trough terrain, etc).

THIS IS OF COURSE A SERIOUS suggestion.

 

Thoughts?

Wouldn't fix the melee issue which is damage at end of animation. Also not a bugfix, and neither is your second idea.

Yeah, but would make them engage MUCH sooner, AND bug the defenders/retreaters as they will stick on their buts forever!

 

Also not a bugfix, and neither is your second idea.

Yes, QUITE true.

Perhaps then I will add it to the Unification_Weapons :twisted:

The problem has never been engagement, it had always been that you can run away. The nearest best solution I have seen or can imagine is a speed modifier in a small radius around the attacker. The problem is that relic did not allow for melee on the move, so you stand still to swipe and the damage is at the end of the animation. During this time the other party keeps running and avoids damage.

Indeed, this cannot be avoided. But I do not see this as a problem...

Because, you cannot run forever, can you? :p

Faster "chasers" will make it even "steeper" for the fleeing squads, that is all I said.

 

MOREOVER, the melee_leap mechanic is NOT hindered by this - units that can employ it (Lictors, Grey Knights, Kroot Carnivores), can engage enemies even if they flee. Only once every now and then of course.

On the other hand, melee assassins, the solitaire, harlequins can constantly DANCE and damage/knock-back enemies in this way.

Try it, but that's potentially a massive balance change.

That, was already a balance changer, since ranged units are forced to obey line of sight. And Ordnance gets more useful.

So I think it belongs there :thumbsuphappy:

I fear for balance issues, it's a bit different from the unrealistic los of the weapons, which in that case they are limited while the melee charge proposed is a buff, or not?

 

By the way, from the conversation I read that melee on the move is not possible, is there any replacement/decent substitute for an effect of trampling? Melee damage by contact/proximity?

Well, this is a balance initiative, to make melee squads more enticing. It is not a fix!

Well, they will only engage enemies within (average) 12 meters, with a x1.25 increase in speed...

Will not have a MAJOR impact! Not to mention that we have made it so IN MANY mods.

AND it is so for some units in vanilla DoW. MOST Orks have it already!

I have not tried to give melee weapons... Range (of 2)!! It may work (sight chances).

The only alternative would be to use the dance (leap) mechanic.

Have a try guys, and tell me what you think. It took me a couple of hours to do :p

It contains BOTH the weapon los update, AND the new charging modifiers for melee units.
