Hi everyone, i have the commandos 2 Steam version, y follow the guide and install the HD project because the game simply wont open, and happened the same with the mode regardless of legacy version or the new version. Any idea of how to make the game run?

 

I did:

 

Enable direct play

compatibility mode

trying to use Dxwnd

 

but the game wont open

I am going to assume that you have a clean install of vanilla Commandos 2 on Steam, and you made sure it runs fine by itself, you should always use the new version though, legacy cannot have a higher resolution than 640x480.

Next you want to extract the HD project by launching Commandos 2 HD Project V.1.0 ENG.exe. Notice that you can extract it anywhere, but after that you have to copy all the files and folders into the Commandos 2 install directory (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Commandos 2 Men of Courage). Make sure that CommandosHDLauncher and DATA, and Legacy and OUTPUT and SweetFX folders are on the same level.

Now you can run Launcher.exe directly from this folder. Make sure you don't select horizontal resolution higher than 1920 even if your desktop is higher than that. I had to untick the Reshade effects to be able to run it, you might not have to.

I didn't have to set any compatibility or administrative setting on any exe files.

I'm in a similar boat. I've got both the GOG & Steam vesions (running windows 10). First off GOG:

 

install the game and run it (the resolution is 800x600 out of the box). runs fine.

install 1.0 project hd and run the launcher. first off the launcher will only allow me to run at 1280x720 (despite my 1920x1080 desktop res). 

OK, roll with it, and it opens a windowed application that is immediately unresponsive so I have no choice but to quit the app through task manager.

 

steam:

install and runs the vanilla game just fine.

install the hd project and the app crashes in windowed mode (similar to GOG version). this is the case for both the base folder and install the mod to the LEGACY folder. 

 

have double checked and directplay box is ticked in windows features. Tried 3 different laptops (windows 10, windows 11 and ubuntu using steam proton). cannot get this to run
