Hi all, it's been a while since I've been active here, but for those not in the know, the past week or so has seen a series of mass shootings, cumulating in yet another school shooting on May 24th, in the town of Uvalde, Texas. As of this post, 19 children and 2 adults were killed, plus the gunman himself. That alone should be enough to break anyone, but it gets worse. This is going to be looking at things beyond just the shooting, so be ready.

First part I wanted to go over is the most obvious, gun control/access. The shooter, an 18-year-old kid, was able to buy 2 ar-15 rifles mere days beforehand, one of which was the day after his birthday. He was also able to buy 375 rounds for said rifles. Of course, this being Texas, it was perfectly legal. My question is why? Why is there not some kind of waiting period? Is there any real reason why we can't require some kind of license system similar to that required to drive cars beyond of that of "muh second amendment"? I understand this is America, the gun culture is too ingrained to do any real control and in addition, there has been a new consideration I've been having lately that has made me re-evaluate gun control. One, I actually did go out and get myself a firearm leading up to the 2020 election because I foresaw potential violence taking place, and of course it did, just limited to the capital. Second, we'll go into in the next section. I still don't see why requiring some proof of competency such as requiring a 6-month class with a license given at the end

The police response was nothing less than insult to humanity. They not only sat by outside the school for an hour as the shooting took place, letting children be slaughtered, they actively stopped parents from going in to save their children. I ask you, what is the point of having a police force if they are unwilling to risk themselves in the slightest to save the most vulnerable among us? It wasn't until a border patrol unit arrived that the shooter was engaged and killed. For reference, the border is 70 miles away. Police in America are always ready to kill minorities for the slightest infraction, but apparently can't stop a single shooter killing kids. That's the second reason I did get myself a gun. Time after time, American police has proven themselves unworthy of any kind of trust, especially among minorities. I absolutely cannot blame people, especially said minorities, feeling the need for firearms since our police are worse than useless.

All in all, this is really just the (current) end of a long line of events, from all the shootings, to our political situation, to the fact Trump was our god damn president for four years, to corporations buying more and more of the nation, that has eroded any hope I had for this nation. I am just at a loss. There is a sickness, a rot, present in American society that I just don't see being cured. A full third of the country is supporting the slide to fascism that Trump and the new GOP represents. Dozens of children are slaughtered in their classrooms and the best our politicians can manage is thoughts and prayers, but nothing changes. I just don't know guys. Is anyone able to sponsor an American to move to their country?

Sorry if this is disjointed, I got up and walked away several times, it took me hours to write this because of that. I'm just so tired of children having to die so corporations can make more money.

Only one thing that can be done: ditch Republicans.  All they've done in the past 20 years is make guns easier to buy and they're still fighting to make it easier.  Time's up.  Get em out.

That's a given, but here's the thing: the people who voted them in will still be here. The rot in our society will still be here. They're the symptom, the outward sign of how awful our culture has become. There's so much that needs to be fixed, yes the gun issue, but also the power money and therefore the ultra rich wields on our government. Until that is taken care of, Republicans will be here to stay.
