In the top right of most keyboards is a button marked "Print Scrn" (Scrn stands for Screen), sometimes it has "SysRq" on it too.
Pressing "Print Scrn" makes an image of your screen in the Windows clipboard. To use this goto an image program, like Paint, and 'paste' it in.
You can also save it in Word and Excel. An image program is recommended.
You can also take ‘active’ shoots by holding “Alt” and then pressing “Print Scrn”. This only shows the currently active window. This is useful for showing specific parts of your screen.

Alternately, look down the tabbed menus (File, Edit, etc). Usually they'll have a Capture Frame or some such. I know Windows Media Player doesn't let you directly screengrab, but I think there's still a Capture Frame button somwhere.

i discover 'layer'
it was said that 'layer' was used to help the animatation flow in media players
this layer was like a ghost to the computer but appeared on the screen fine
so i decided to turn 'layer' off and 'printscreen' worked
i still dont know what it is but i call it the 'layer'
im sure you experts know what it is. i have no clue
i was able to grab this picture

Besides making movies Fraps can take screenshots, name them by the exact date and time. I think its better nthen PrtScr, because it makes the screen autopmaticly and not just past it on your clipboard.
