I agree with you that there is a definite distinction between romantic love and other types of love (ie. maternal love). I think this thread started out with a discussion of romantic love, but now we've kind of branched out and started discussing other types as well. It seems that we all have different definitions of romantic love, and I think it's hard to really pick one. Personally, [I hate to say this, but it's true] I believe (and science has more or less proven) that all love, romantic or otherwise, is hormonal - or at least related to chemical signaling in the body. But there really aren't any feelings that aren't like that, are there? And I don't see why love is any less just because it's hormonal, and we know that its roots don't lie with Cupid but with pheromones (or are those just in animals? I'm not quite sure). I think the fact that science is just beginning to understand the complexities of love and how it evolved only makes it or the more magical - and just because love is hormonal doesn't mean it isn't "real."

Wow, that was quite a bit of soul-baring. I don't think I'd done that yet in this forum.

On the scientific verge of the topic, it's essential that accepting some "feeling" such as that, that it can't just be made up of overloaded hormones and the like. If it does, that in theory it should be possible to force someone to fall in love by adding hormons manually or it could happen in unexpected overgrouth of hormon producers.

I recon an analysis a while ago about how people tend to fall in love with people who look alike with important people in their lives (e.g parents, old friends, babysitters when they were young, elementry school teachers, etc)... :p
Hoooiyyy~

Well, love is around but there are many a stronger thing that can break it apart, such as alcohol. A lesson learnt quite recently :p

First off all, thank you all for replying. I'm amazed to see so many good replies.

'love is anything. it breaks and it returns. if you are weak then it will surely die'

it doesnt matter what you love. its love. what you love discribes the person you are. love changes only because you or someone else change.

so please. dont say that 19yr olds dont know love

even a child knows love

I think your absolutely right.
As I'm a well... <19 y/o... I felt an incredible love for a girl I didnt even know IRL, and I've seen her photos and she wasnt a beauty princess either.. it wasnt a material love... though... perhaps even better, to be honest.

oh yeah

just because you didnt know what love was when you were younger doesnt mean other people dont

'love is real and it grows' whether you keep it or not depends on how you have change. and it has nothing to do with age. more like personality

I think your right but it tends to get a bit offensive there... :p

Yeh I know, I started it based on my situation/problem/what ever u want to call it.

Personally, (I hate to say this, but it's true) I believe (and science has more or less proven) that all love, romantic or otherwise, is hormonal - or at least related to chemical signaling in the body.  But there really aren't any feelings that aren't like that, are there?  And I don't see why love is any less just because it's hormonal, and we know that its roots don't lie with Cupid but with pheromones (or are those just in animals? I dont want to believe that love is hormonal only. I think sex would be, but love, nah... If it would be hormonal, I feel like that love wouldnt be real at all, and that it would just be my hormones driving me into a lust for love instead of true love. I refuse it to be that way reallly

Wow, that was quite a bit of soul-baring.  I don't think I'd done that yet in this forum.

Lol.. good to see you got involved a bit more :)

On the scientific verge of the topic, it's essential that accepting some "feeling" such as that, that it can't just be made up of overloaded hormones and the like. I absolutely agree here, and btw, welcome back MaperRiz.

I recon an analysis a while ago about how people tend to fall in love with people who look alike with important people in their lives (e.g parents, old friends, babysitters when they were young, elementry school teachers, etc)... :)

Hmm...

Well, love is around but there are many a stronger thing that can break it apart, such as alcohol. A lesson learnt quite recently

I've kind of seen that... my dad used to be an alcoholic, it destroyed his marraige with my mother. But out of love, he stopped drinking for my mum and me+the family. Because he loved us so dearly that he stopped drinking for us. Love can also repair...

EDIT: attempt to fix the quote chaos.

Everyone will have mixed opinions on love. Love is the most powerfull emotion.

I don't believe that true love is experienced at a young age. It's a stage where the hormones are starting to kick in. Girls tend to have an easier time controling it and understanding what they're feeling compared to what their bodies are telling them. Boys find it a lot harder. The male hormones are much stronger, it's really tough for a male to really know the difference between lust and love at an early age. I'm 20 now, and I'm starting to understand the difference. Now I'm beginning to realise who I just have lust feelings for and who the feelings run a bit deeper for. I must admit, it's suprising.
True love lies with someone who is always there for you. Someone who knows everything about you and you know everything about them. You might not realise at first, but there is someone you care about more than anything else in the world Someone who you would give up anything just to so much as spend some time with them. That someone you don't have to tell that you love, because they already know. Just like you already know that they love you.
That, in my view, is true love. There is no bond that's stronger. Nothing more special.

Thinkin about love really, I think love actually is a weird twist of fate, and its up to you to decide if you should follow you fate to have a relation or if your going to stay single.

cause if love is just hormonal, love is just an thing waiting to happen, unless you are bound to withstand the bothering cause of personal reasons... (being hurt... etc...)

SHORT STORY (might sound gayass but it ain not lie)

i had this girl who was everything to me. she could mend my pain like a cotton candy. she was the sweetest thing. the only girl i ever wanted. she still is the only girl. but she aint alive no more... at least not to me =)

is that love? ? did i mistake her for love because of the incomplete story? what is love? is my memory of her enough? who will accept my love for this girl?..... only i... can accept my love

though people can actualy persude people to fall in love. its for the stupid type of people. i guess love is anything you make it

i am only 19. if what i have is love. then little boys do fall in love

you know what im saying? maybe not

i just hate hearing people say young poeple dont know love... i think they are *COUGHS* "AACCHHOOOOO!!!!!"... close minded people because even adults often dont know what love is...

its almost like saying... uh..... "only asians can fight" and you know how retarded that sounds. ask any fighter and they will smack you in the face

My love was simular. but it was different in most cases. First of all it was an internet/phone connection.. no actual meet ups.
But she could have some sudden bursts of well... weirdness
I suppose shes extremely moody some times
Anyways, after waiting for 50 days I finally got her to react. Perhaps not a good reaction, but heck, atleast she knew how to message me again.

I'm glad I commented on this post before it got spammed to death... And considering that 99.9% of Revora members are probably male, your dating service idea might turn out to be somewhat, err... interesting. ;)

A match made in heaven ;)

Alright, alright, guys this is a serious topic...

Every emotion is partly hormonal. But there's more to a human being than just primal instincts, governed by chemicals.
If there wasn't, we would not pair up. We'd have one night stands in mating season. We'd be unable to even contemplate the abstract concept of love. That's what the expansive mass of neurons we call the 'brain' and the 'mind' is. It lets us experience these things for a reason.
What good are we as the most intelligent being on the planet if we can't build social relations (beyond fighting over potential mates, territory and food)? Love is there to help us protect us and ours, and also to help us forge new and lasting ties.
Think about it. God forbid, but if you found out...say, your mother had kidney failure, and you were the only donor. Hands up how many people wouldn't donate? (Dysfunctional families are a grey area but you get my point)
Love overrides the normal instinct of self-preservation. And we're willing to give anything for the person on the other end, be they a family member (hypocrite coming from me...most of my family, I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire! :p ), one of your own children, friends, or partners/wives.
