Overview

The Aesanian Union is the largest democracy on Earth, having been united on April 5, 1940 when it was formed from four seperate nations.

The AU was founded on the ideals of a free society. Admittedly, it is not a utopia, and crime and corruption run rampant. However, it is far better than some places, and the standard of living is among the highest in the world thanks to the booming economy.

The AU is made up of six provinces, each of them having an equal voice in the Senate. The largest province is Aersan, the location of the capital, Patal.

Military

The military of the Aesanian Union is among the most advanced in the world, boasting a strong air force. The main asset of the military is the Union Air Force, being among the largest and most advanced in the world.

.03% of the total population of the Union is in the military, bringing the total to about 1,392,000 personnel. The rest of the funding for the military goes into the upkeep and development of advanced equipment.

The main philosiphy of the Union is to pummel the enemy from the sky. Air superiority is key to Union operations, and they will stop at nothing to achieve it. Naval forces comes next, boasting a large carrier force.

Geography


The AU is a temperate nation, having a very cool climate. In the northeast are the Aersa Grasslands, flat and open areas where alot of the AU's agriculture is based. Meanwhile, in the center of the nation are the Central Hills, a heavily forested area populated mostly by coniferous vegetation.

Dividing the nation from its northern neighbors are the Aesanian Mountains, a fairly low chain of mountains that makes for a great natural defense. The outer area of the mountains are the Northern Grasslands, which is a flat area and is one of the colder areas in the AU.

On Aesania's southern border are the Galan Wetlands, where the area is very wet and the soil is rich in nutrients, but too soggy to plant anything. Swamps and wetlands are a common sight here, and this area of the nation recieves the most rainfall. It is slightly warmer than other areas of the AU, but still a very cool area.

Homeland Defensive Systems

The military of the AU has pumped alot of money into defensive weapons, and has developed many different advanced systems to be deployed for the defense of the homeland. First and foremost was the Strategic Defense Force, allowing the AU to take a deep breath when it came to strategic attack.



Meet Divine Shield, Aesania's response to the strategic missile. The concept is quite simple: a massive SDI solid state laser which is used to disable incoming strategic missiles. There are currently twelve active throughout the country, with two in each province. They are supplemented by missile batteries and their smaller cousins, the anti-air solid state laser turrets.



Here you see an anti-air laser, in use around one of their larger cousins. Its smaller size and faster rate of fire gives it the ability to destroy most incoming aircraft, and it allows Union fighters to move in and gain air superiority quickly. Currently, there are countless emplacements in service around the country, all of them ready to fire at all times. They are supplemented by standard flak guns and long range SAMs in order to keep the skies clear of hostiles.

Along the coastline and borders is where the defenses are the heaviest, with anti-air emplacements very common, supplemented by bunkers armed with machine guns and mortars. Ever since the cold war with Belka began, the borders of the Union became a fortress. Tank traps and various different defenses are a common sight along the coast.

Scheduled to come into service soon is another home defense weapon, codenamed Stonehenge. The weapon is a battery of railguns which uses an immense shockwave to obliterate aircraft and clear the skies of hostiles. The weapon network is currently in testing. It has been proven that the weapon possesses unbelievable range, displayed by this map. As you can see, two smaller, short range batteries are used to fill in the gaps.

The UAF is the main asset of the Union Military, possessing some of the most advanced aircraft known. These range from the venerable F-15, to the new and unusual Falken. Union Naval Forces

The Union Navy mainly concentrates on aircraft carriers, carrying over the philosiphy of air superiority. The same aircraft (modified for carrier use) used in the UAF are used in the UNF, allowing for more compatibility between the branches. The fleet also manages a few modern battleships, and there are rumors of a Superdreadnought in the works. These are only rumors, though.

Union Army

The Union Army is the elite ground force of the Union, and is trained for perfection. It uses small forces for precision strikes and combined operations. It depends on the Air Force in order to be able to gain victory, but it has proven itself effective before.

The Mark V is the latest and greatest in the Aesanian arsenal, adding new dimensions to tank warfare. It calls for a 140mm main gun over the current model's 120mm cannon. It boasts increased armor and carrying capabilities, while retaining the speed and reliability of the Mk.IV. It also has the capability of carrying a fireteam (four men) inside the cabin in the back end, thereby increasing its overall capabilities. In the long run it is felt it will be a worthwhile investment, and the government has pushed for it to enter service within two months.

Military Installations of the AU



There are several major military installations of the AU, all of them playing a key role in homeland defense. There are also some areas of importance which are not military. Here they will be listed.


Sand Island AFB

Sand Island is situated off the coast of mainland AU, and is the AU's first defense in the event of attack from across the ocean. Stationed here is a garrison of aircraft which is always combat ready.


Galsan Space Center

The Galsan Space Center, located in north-central Galsan, is a major research facility for new aeirial weapons, and is the launch site of the latest orbital asset of the Aesanian Union, codenamed Arkbird.


Aersan Shipyards

Located in the Bay of Aersan, the Aersan shipyards are the major producer of naval ships in the Aesanian Union, and is where the Home Defense Fleet flag is based. It is a key asset, and is heavily defended.


Patal AFB

The largest airbase in the Union, Patal AFB is a key part of the Aesanian defense web. Situated just outside of Patal, the base is among the most active in the world.
