Today, as testing began in the mountainous area of Yuktobania, only large explosions could be heard. These explosions were actually test munitions of the new Phoenix warhead for artillery. It is built like a two stage rocket, being the first stage is the initial propellant stage, but the second is used to maneuver the projectile like a TOW missile towards a target. It can be tied in with a GPS guidance system to increase accuracy, and ensure an almost spot-on hit. This type of munitions will be up for trade among ISAF nations and certain nations of which the Yuktobanian government chooses once it goes into production within the military. The reason why the munitions is being tested now is for the weapon that is being discussed for defense of Yuktobania. It is known as a Supergun. This same gun was to be built in several other countries for more malicious intent, but as there is practically no Yuktobanian navy to speak of, there needs a defense that can protect the Kazat Bay in its entirety. A smaller version of a Supergun will be built, as it will only be for the defense of Kazat Bay. Another Supergun will be installed in the Yuktobanian mountainous region if all goes well with the first. No information on either weapon has been released to the public.

((OOC: As far as I'm concerned this is OK as it doesn't live up to its name as entirely as, say, Stonehenge would. It's just a really accurate and juicy arty strike, right? Anyways, it wont' stand up to Scinfaxi ;) :umad:))

One question: How far is Baghdad from Tel Aviv? ;) That was the intended range for the Project Babylon's Big Babylon, which will be the second one that I'll build. The first one will have a range of 200 miles, which will be somewhere 100 miles southeast of Kazatimiru, which is the bay city of Yuktobania. Can your MLRS's missiles travel that far, ali?

Well, I'll just need some jamming, or even a rebuilding of the Yuktobanian navy, won't I? ;)

OOC: Babylon was literally going to just be a big gun. That's a lot cheaper than firing missiles out of a cannon. It's not waay expensive, but if you think in the long run, laser guided shells might be just as efficient if you plan on using it where you'll be able to see the enemy, as TOWs are used (Considering they're optically wire guided).

OOC: For aircraft launched cruise missiles your looking at 250 kms, for ship and submarine launched ones your looking at 1500 km range.

OOC: I will not sell them. As you are a member-country of ISAF, the plans of the Supergun will be shared with you, along with all other ISAF nations that want a 'piece of the action'.

OOC: That was a guess, looking an non-nuclear ones like Tomahawk you have a 1100 km range but with Trident missiles its about 7400 km.

OOC: Tomahawks can get that range carrying nothing, any explosive payload decreases the range significantly. Also, Trident missiles are SLBMs and enter low orbit, hardly suitable for antiship purposes considering they're designed to hit within a kilometer of where they were aiming for.

OOC: According to Nology, a big enough one could hit Belka from northern Yuktobania. And I do mean:

BIG.

And three average ones (according to him) would be a great defernsive asset that would cover all of Pythogria.

OOC: Yes, I'm sure they could. Ever hear of the Schwerer Gustav? It was an 800mm howtizer operated by the German army in the siege of Sevastopol in 1941 and 42. If you look at the after action reports for the artillery detachment, you'll see that they fired five shells per day on several occasions, and on the 7th of June 1942, they fired seven. It's not because of supply issues, it's because they literally couldn't load it quickly. Things haven't changed much, sure we have autoloaders, but to make an autoloader of that size would cost twice as much as the gun itself. Furthermore, you need to take into account accuracy, which you all obviously haven't. While you could theoretically fire a missile from the gun, missiles are very limited in range and aspect targeting. And while shells may have unlimited range, the two guidance options available are laser guidance and GPS guidance. The former involves having someone in visual range pointing an overglorified, very powerful laser pointer at a target, which would be foolish. The latter is useless against moving targets and involves a cost nearly four times that much as a normal shell, and involves training on equipment that tends to be very expensive.
What you are looking at here is the largest misappropriation of funds I have ever even heard conceived. The Dora and Schwerer Gustav, the two 80cm guns designed to blow apart the Maginot Line, went through about three years of squabbling. In 1934, OKH delivered the order to Krupp, and it wasn't until 1937, at the behest of many generals and military leaders, that the guns were approved. That bureaucracy was in a dictatorship too, and one with the most decisive general staffs in the last century. The guns weren't even completed until 1940 either! What you're planning is a multi-billion dollar project with shells that cost somewhere in the midrange tens of millions each, and with training and labor that would keep the weapon out of deployment for the next three years. Think feasibly, and realize that while you might not like what I'm saying, I'm really helping you. At least this way you won't be so pissed when one air strike absolutely obliterates your position and your prized superguns which cost you nearly two trillion dollars. Listen to reason.
