Overview:
Rivana is a country ruled by a Tsar. From the sheer beginning the tsardom treated these lands as their own private property, vying for control with a bloody axe if anyone dared to question their motives. While the world entered the industrial age, Rivana was stagnant still relying on hordes of soldiers and cannons to do the trick. The government itself, while completely dedicated to pleasing the decadent Tsar, is very unstable as Boyars with their manors all over the country are always looking to get a bit more power into their hands. A disagreement between Boyars may yield many different results ranging from initial discontent right down to a small civil war. This makes the whole country but a powder keg waiting to be ignited. But even the Boyars dare not question the authority of the Tsar who were always strong individuals. And that is what keeps the country from falling apart.
The Tsar himself is almost always surrounded by priests or other servants of god. He also has a number of advisors who like to appeal to him to get into his good graces. Overall it is a very corrupt state. If it wasn't for the Tsar's vast properties and net worth, all of his servants would leave him in the blink of an eye.
The countries economy is what some would call it one of the worst stages of capitalism, which is closer to barbarism and feudalism than anything. The Tsar can assert control over any asset in the country, he can order any citizen to do his bidding. But he rarely does so rather bathing in his luxuries and mingling with the high elite of the world. Instead, the multitude of Boyars control the economy for the most part. They keep the peasants in check and keep them disciplined. The whole country runs on a farming enterprise. Manors controlling miners are a rarity, though there are a few of them in the north.
