As Clandonia was attacked from the Belkan border, Belkan troops had invaded Clandonias ally moving into the X.I. taking out the government. In fear of another front being opened up as the Belkans moved in Clandonian forces rushed to cross the border with armour to reinforce the east as the X.I. army crumbled from the Belkan numbers....

Clandonia moved elements of the 2nd Army in as the uprising around Kirkland Down airbase had been quashed from airstrikes and a fierce carpet bombing campaign infantry had moved in told to take no prisoners as they knew the Belkans would fight to the death.

The Belkans had seized the initiative around the XI borders. Knowing that the entire country had gone into complete meltdown and anarchy when the government dissolved, the Belkans had decided to move in and fill the power vacuum. Pro-Belkan Xeonthian units joined forces with the Belkan main force as it moved in to restore some sort of order and keep out what they considered to be the Clandonian threat. Belka had promised free and independent government to the XI people as opposed to the regular landgrabbing that had been going on elsewhere, and the XI were happy to believe it.

As a result, XI defensive positions and mobile SAM sites turned to point eastward. Others, more savvy, refused to do what they considered to be suicide. They did not engage the pro-Belkans, but instead went off to join the Clandonian forces.

X.I. naval forces had been called into the battle by Clandonian naval commanders from the Phoenixian bay firing in land and using their aircraft carriers to co-ordinate airstrikes. Meanwhile Clandonian armour and infantry moved inwards securing positions planning on moving halfway into the country hoping to create a blocking effect on the Belkan forces.

The Clandonians told the truth of the unreported mass killings to the West on civillians from Belkan troops as many refugges moved eastwards past the streaming convoys of Clandonian reinforcements.

The Belkan forces brought with them a number of the aircraft they'd stolen, hitting back with them in air support roles. They weren't slouching. Their politicians and high-ranking officers were rather irritated that they hadn't convinced any of the XI navy to defect, but it didn't matter much. The Belkans were now involved in a tactic of wearing XI uniforms instead of their own. There weren't enough to go around, of course, but they threw on as many as they could. They also flew XI flags. The pro-Belkan XI's didn't mind; it further illuded them that they were going to be under free, impartial XI rule later.

Clandonian forces had now reached East Mariva, their intended target now all that lay between them were the Prelos Mountains. With the capital under control, the X.I. government was glad for the help with the navy under their command and elements of the army and air force they had a plan formulated. With over 1.1 million naval personal ready to defend their lands from hostile attack from the Morgan Harbor with a team on Eliptica manning the large naval guns defending the Eastern half.

Belkan artillery and rocket artillery rained down on positions throughout the Clandonian-controlled sector. Some more precise attacks were thrown into the capital aiming for such as the Johnston Memorial Bridge, an act which would effectively cut off enemy armoured forces from a small island in the centre of the capital city. This was important; the Pro-Belkan XI forces had a small force there at their disposal. These forces, along with a number of disguised Belkan forces, wormed their way into the minglings of the XI army not affiliated with Belka. A number of assassinations of key Pro-Clandonian officers took place with very few of the culprits being caught. Other such covert forces made their way towards the small city island. Miles behind enemy lines, the island and the covert forces had to try and cause whatever disruption they could. There were smaller bridges to and from the island, but none of which were capable of supporting tanks.

At the front, the Belkans slowed their advance. They kept pushing, but at a much slower rate. They kept their best and most formidable kit to the front, and bit out like an asp wherever the Clandonians looked weak.
The minelaying operation of Clandonia did force a diversion of forces around the artillery position. Indeed, knowing it was inoperable, they simply ignored it completely, going around it and using satellite imagery recordings to judge approximately the region where the mines were concentrated. Naturally, some soldiers had arms or legs blown off, and the odd tank lost a track, but this was pretty much the way of things. It was part of the reason for the slowing advance. The other was to allow the supplies time to catch up. Besides, Clandonian forces were in the middle of a pincer at the moment; they had divided their forces to help XI, while Belkans still rampaged around Clandonian territory. It made no sense to the majority of the Belkan officers; why not just slowly filter troops out of the XI to fortify positions in Clandonia? Hell, take the XI-ers with them...the fighting was surely bogging the Belkans down long enough to make it worthwhile. It might not help on the northern front, but better to put a stick between the crocodile's jaws than to let them close completely shut.

Clandonian commanders had been meeting all day with X.I forces that were pro-Clandonian, smoke rose from the capital as X.I aircraft flew over ahead from their off shore carriers.

The deployment of Clandonian made and newly designed Targon two-stage explosive mines that are fired from MLRS with thousands of tiny glass balls liquid filled littering several square miles of land with a deadly load.

The idea had been to create a false view of the Belkans as Clandonian forces fortified on the borders of their country mining, deploying guns, artilery. The X.I's small army had been used to defend key cities manning them to the death entrenching positions. Their leadership command was fractured, traps were set up buildings with automatic sniper rifles desgined to look like garrisons would be used with the X.I.s hardware if anyone tried to go in they would face a bloody death.
