The West Belkan Federal Republic
Government Type: Representative Democratic Republic
Economic System: Capitalism
Government Stance: Social: Mid-Right
Population: 53 million
Monetary Unit: Belkan Dollar
Overview
Bordering the Atlantian Empire and the Casmire, West Belka is about as good as it gets from an ideological standpoint, when one considers the others included in the Four Nations of Belka. They have a lot of money to spend in many areas, and their grip on the stock markets is quite strong. They are forced to have a fairly large military, primarily due to the threat that is the Free Republic. This is true of all the other Belkan nations, but the Republic fears attack more so than the others due to the obvious ideological paranoia that comes from being so close to a militaristic fascist powerhouse.
Government
A party-political system operates in the Federal Republic. Utilising a Senatorial system (instead calling it a Council), West Belka is divided into forty-three smaller zones, each of which fronts a representative for the Council. This operates not unlike a local parliamentary election in the UK. The President is appointed in a general election, though this has no effect on the Councillors, who jointly pass judgement on any amendments or actions proposed by the President, and the President ratifies any change asked for by the majority-vote of Councillors. The President can be granted emergency powers in the event of war or other crisis, but is obliged to immediately step down once the crisis is over.
Geographic Location
Southwestern, has a band which goes through the equator. However, due to the lie of the land, West Belka is considerably less tropical, however it does suffer from monsoons occasionally. Near the Atlantian borders, things are considerably more temperate.
Culture
Very Westernised, though the people are considerably less patriotic than, say, the United States. They like their country and are contented, but they are not fanatically loyal or propagandalised.
Music
Currently at the top of the chart is Lus Biknala, a Belkan seranade singer. He is very popular in neighbouring Casmire, too. The West Belkans have a thing for seranade and love songs. (OOC: They should call Time Life records )
Education
Education between 5 and 17 is compulsory. Private schools tend to be leaned on hard by the government despite their superior class performance. University is expensive, but in the fields of electronics, the West Belkans are hard to beat.
Military
Not unlike the USA's of the same time period, the infantry have become adept at thinking outside the box and, as it happens, the trench. Their rifles and infantry equipment and discipline are excellent, though their other features fall behind. Their artillery is somewhat undersized and underpowered, and their tanks aren't known for thickness of armour.
