red mosque siege

now, about 50ish fanatical religious people are stuck in the mosque with a few hundred students that they are effectively using as hostages by the sound of the media. but that can be discussed, as there are probably a few fanatics left in those groups aswell.
the nice thing about this situation is that its a very nice moral blow to fanatic islamists, especially when leaders get caught in burkas. if the people in the mosque get caught alive they will hopefully be flagged around as heretics of islam and whatnot, perhaps causing a snowball-effect for a reform within the interpretations of islam.

Chris
BTW, Ben Franklin wrote a book titled 'Fart Proudly', it can be found on Ebay etc.
Ben was sometimes not all there I think. Witty and funny though. Just think if the USA had adapted his idea of using the turley in/as our national symbol. That would have been appropriate, since the end of WWII we have given away a huge amount of our money and etc. to other people and nations for little in return, making us turkeys more or less.

Talk about terror, what if this happens all over the world!??! Oh my!!!
Reminds me of the Lemming Terrorist problem.

2 Billion Chinese Mice Overrun Lake Area
By Associated Press
BEIJING - People living in communities surrounding a large shallow lake have been overrun by field mice after floodwaters drove the rodents out of islands on the lake, state media reported Monday.
The mouse invasion began on June 23 when the Yangtze River flooded, raising the water level in central China's Dongting Lake and submerging mouse holes on lake islands, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
Now, an estimated 2 billion mice are ravaging crops in 22 counties around the lake, and authorities were rushing to construct walls and ditches to keep the rodents out. Residents have killed more than 2.3 million field mice _ or 90 tons of the rodents, Xinhua said.
In Hunan province's Yiyang County, a ditch along the lakeshore was filled with mice. Residents were using clubs and shovels to beat them to death, while others scooped the furry animals out using fishing nets.
Mice have already damaged dikes and ruined crops in areas where authorities were slow to build walls and ditches, Xinhua said.
The rodent problem was expected to worsen as more floods were forecast for the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and Dongting Lake.

Carl Japiske wrote that book. I can't imagine that Benjamin Franklin would ever pick a name such as that.
Has very little to do with the Red Mosque siege... except for maybe the fact that the Pakistanis have gotten some money recently from the US? Or that Pakistan is a US ally?Ben was sometimes not all there I think. Witty and funny though. Just think if the USA had adapted his idea of using the turley in/as our national symbol. In response to the Red Mosque siege:

I read this in Time yesterday and just found it online now. It's a rather harrowing account of the conditions and the people holed up in the Mosque... and things do not seem good.
This presents a rather serious security problem to Pakistan. If these extremists unseat or shake up the already fragile government in Pakistan, it could destabilize the region and unfortunately, result in a war with India or an intervention by the United States. Unless the Pakistanis can deal with this peacefully and resolve it safely, the government will be destabilized to the breaking point. Musharraf has never really had complete control over the country, and this threatens to take him completely out of power...

i would have to disagree and say that this will give Musharraf more support from the western world, and others that have little interest in the islamists enforcing their own laws in the streets. there might be a bunch of pissed off islamists because of whats happening over there right now, but hell, there is like 20-40 well-known terrorists in that building that alot of people wants to get their hands on. people who supports those kind of people should , at best, be ignored when it comes to politics. if that doesnt work there are more direct steps worth considering.
he might be getting himself into trouble with fanatics, but as far as i'm concerned pissing the worst fanatics off and putting them in a bad light is a win-win situation. catching their boss in a burka and trying to use diplomacy for a week with only bullshit responces are great media-victories. whatever the fanatics left in that mosque think they can win through martyrdom is not going to work because of those things.

Yeah, but Franklin wrote many of the quotes and witicisms in there, so in effect Franklin 'wrote the book' so to speak.
Franklin was known for some mmmm, 'mischevious' type behavior while in France with the French Court where he raised some eyebrows and made some jealous because many young courtesans liked him, and also known for what at the time may be considered 'impertinent' type behavior at times. Old Ben was a trip.
