If you want to try and enter the wonderful world of game development, here is a tool which will help you and take away the tedious parts of game programming.

The Victory Engine is a new modular game engine meant to take care of those tasks that are common in many game development projects. It's core components include:

* A game loop to execute logic.
* An entity list to keep track of all the entities (objects and helpers) in the game.
* A flexible framework for loading and managing resources.

On top of that, several extra components are included which you can decide for yourself whether or not to use:

* Basic geometry, math, physics and collision detection.
* A 2D graphics system.
* Player keyboard and mouse input.
* An easy to use networking layer.

The Victory Engine is meant to be as generic and flexible as possible. Very game-specific elements (such as an inventory system or player object) are therefore not a core part of it. Often-used elements may, however, be included as extra, optional components to be easily inserted into the engine.

I am learning, just sticking to CSS intricisies, beginer PHP, n00b JS, and trembling in my boots about the fact I'm actually doing a unit on object oriented design this semester... If it goes well I'll damn well take a closer look at this :lol:

We have a new site:

In another step at marketing the Victory Engine more as a seperate product and giving it more attention, I've installed a new wiki for it. This wiki, found at http://victory.openwarengine.org/ replaces the simple, temporary site we had there (although it looked great, TDP ;)). Feel free to add anything you like, and spam this link around as much as you can :rolleyes:

The engine is going to support 3D as well, by using a modular design. Check out the forum! :p

Gah! Why Java? ;)

I guess there's no way I can avoid getting familiar with that language eventually...
