Background: Lectured in military history and, at the Outbreak, took up his old pistol and whatever weapon was closest to hand, it being a large and very sharp sword. Being a specialist in military history, he is also well-briefed on using the sword, and practice since has made him rather more proficient. The gun was more of an afterthought, as he had never before even picked one up.
