Let me begin with a brief explanation. I assume at least some of you will have seen Joss Whedon's 'Firefly' series, or the film that followed, 'Serenity'. They are set in a world in the future just after a large-scale war across a few solar systems between the Alliance and the Independents. The show's heroes fought for the independents, who lost. They now operate as transporters and pirates and small-time criminals, to undermine the Alliance in whatever small way they can. Their universe is rather small, in terms of science fiction space creations, featuring only about three solar systems. They have about 30 planets, with about 500 moons and large geostationary-ised asteroids that have been terraformed for human habitation. In the central system, the worlds are all reasonably advanced, and ecologically friendly, and well-ordered and closely inspected by Alliance officials. On the fringe worlds in the other systems, a law-o'-the-lariat style system has developed, similar to the Old West, because on the fringe worlds the leaders are those who can keep their companions alive the longest. There are also a few planets of once-human ravaging scum called Reavers, who live to kill. Their existence is explained in the film 'Serenity', although my explanation for them will be entirely different, for purposes of awesomeness.

What I propose is an RP in a universe similar to this, but not entirely the same. I would make a few changes for RPing purposes, essentially creating a different future world but along the same lines. For reference purposes:

RPG Name: As yet unknown. I'll come up with a few suggestions along the line somewhere.
RPG Description: Future world containing space pirates and cowboys and a meddlesome Alliance and an evil presence at the fringes.
RPG Era: Future, with past-ish elements.
RPG Plot: To be PM'd.
RPG Leader(s): Me. (Vortigern) And now FZM too.

For anyone who has any ideas for names, go ahead and suggest them. I might listen.

What does everyone think? This is essentially an RP in space but with cowboys and pirates. Guaranteed fun!

EDIT: Having just chatted to FZM, the first suggestion for a name is Worth Fighting For. Any good?

Also, he's offered to help me co-moderate it, helpful chap that he is.

well, if the idea is that our characters will join the crew of our own serenty(firefly) style ship, then why not call the RPG the same name as the ship?

I thought of that, but I have no idea what I would call our ship yet. I mean, I don't want to call it Serenity because that would just be a bit rude, and I'm having trouble thinking of a decent and meaningful name for a ship. But again, if you have any suggestions don't let me stop you.

I also had another problem with this; I was considering us renaming the ship after some particular event in our passage through everything that I have decided will happen, like how Serenity got its name, except that it would be while we were aboard the ship.

But have I got your interest, SWG and Nology? If yes, sweet. Now I'm just hoping for about six more to make it a really awesome RP

I have now thought of a name that I like for the ship, and possibly for the RP as a whole: Icarus. The boy who tried to fly into the sun. However, any suggestions would still be valid, I'm willing to consider all options.

i reckon we should call it "red dawrf", where we will be the somewhat limited crew who are still alive, one of us will be a hologram, and the other will have to have evolved from a cat...


maybe later on we will get a robot crew member....

Please, please change where the Reavers came from. The explanation/depiction of them in Serenity was so gay.

Already thought of that, Foxy. I have an entire new plan for what the Reavers are and have come from. My version is way cooler.

Well maybe you should decide on a name first. But I'd say it's pretty supported.

I'm thinking it should be called Icarus. Partly because I like the name, and partly because (I was experimenting with this earlier) you can more or less get it spelled out of the letters of Firefly, which is awesome, because I like the writing and the style it conveys. The I and the R and already there, the U is just the top of the Y, the A is the E upside down and backwards, the C is the E with the middle bit stolen and the S is an F with the bar nicked. See, it all works

I've been thinking about how to do this and I was thinking I should do a big-ass intro post for the story and then let everyone else put their bit on after I've sorted out how it starts. Would that be OK? (I can't remember how long it takes for a new RP to go up, but I won't be around Sunday-Saturday, more or less, so it won't be any time soon.)

I was thinking that if Copaman wants to join later on we can just say we picked him up somewhere to help us on a job or he was already a contact on a planet and had to get off it in a hurry or something. Everyone else is already crew. Plan?

Oh, and if anyone wants to offer to make a banner for it, please do, I would love one that actually looks halfway decent.

Well looks to me like the end of my imprisonment is coming sooner and easier than I expected.

However, I would still like to be the guy who joins up late... would make for a more interesting character.

Last I saw he said he was spending a month glued to his desk chair, and no sign of him since. Anyway, ASAP so that Copa's character can join a bit later but not wait so long he gets bored
