Any help is welcomed :p

.dds is a well known common format, not EA specific. It's called DirectDraw Surface, I believe.
.lua is a generic extension for files in the LUA scripting language. Don't know if that's also what's used for in DoW2. It can be edited with any text editor such as Notepad++. Same goes for .ini
Doesn't Red Alert 2 uses .mix too?
.tga, another common format, not game-specific

Also, it would be good to add a general description for each file type, such as "MP3 files are audio files encoded with the MP3 compression blablabla". It would be better to use something like "Audio Editor" or "Sound Editor" instead of "Audio Maker"

Good suggestions, page updated (except Source ones, as the Valve site is down atm).

I've added 1 word descriptions (archive, map, audio). I'm not sure if i should do more in-depth descriptions yet; once a modder knows what program to use to edit a file with, he'll move on.

You're working on an engine and don't know anything about DDS? It's the microsoft (didn't the name give it away) texture format. THE texture format to use for any game on the Windows/360/Ps3 platform.

OpenGL uses it too (via ARB Compression).

I'm currently not working on 3D yet. The engine is designed to accomodate it (as in, it's not dependent on a 2d, 3d or whatever, 4d coordinate system and graphics layer), but no kind of 3D component exists yet.
The 2D graphics layer uses Java2D, which does not work with DDS.

I like when ambershee calls someone out on something, he educates them in a fantastically sarcastic manner ;)

And yeah, woo GamesModding.com!
