Okay, I usually try to find solutions to my own problems... I assure you, I've tried a few things out... And downloaded shit heaps of software...

What I'm trying to do is simply tile four video's into a single video file!

Something like this:

[VIDEO1][VIDEO2]
[VIDEO3][VIDEO4]

Now, the source files are four 640x480 .mov's, I tried turning them into .avi's and using avisynth, but I just don't understand that shit.
I've tried out numerous free video editing software, the closes I got was a video made with Jahshaka, which was the wrong resolution, had bars at the top and bottom, and mysteriously omitted my audio track... Apparently there's an easy way to do this in quicktime, but I can't figure that out...

It should be incredibly fucking easy, but I can't seem to find a program that will do it for me...

I tried using WMM, I have the Vista version. How do you do it? O_o

I would recommend Adobe Premiere for basic video editing with multiple video export possibilities.

It's a bit meh, but it's prolly the best generic program for video editing out there.

I would appreciate an elaboration on this... I've looked at xml add-ons to wmm, but i can't seem to find something that will work...

I literally cannot believe how difficult this is... I "acquired" premiere 2, and it won't fucking start, so I'll have to "acquire" another fucking version...

Okay, just so you know what I've tried, here it is:

Tried installing an old copy of pinnacle studio, but it's not compatible with vista.
Tried Windows movie maker, no native ability to split the screen (pile of bloody crap)
Downloaded and tried:
Wax
Avid FreeDV
Zwei-Stein
Jahshaka
MPEG Streamclip
Avidemux
Virtual Dub
AVI
and a number of other things

Tried finding addons to Windows Media player, but that didn't help...

The closest I got was a video made with Jahshaka, that was the correct resolution, but it wouldn't export to the correct resolution... Argh!

So don't assume I haven't tried...

Okay, another update...

I've downloaded Jahshaka again, and it exports the animation as a series of jpeg frames of the correct resolution. Know anything that can encode these frames into a movie?

It just so happens that I don't need the audio, because i recorded it separately. here's a frame, you can see what I'm doing

Right, I've got wax again, and it can render my jpeg's into an mpg, but it REFUSES to render at anything other than 24 fps.

I need it to render at 25 fps!

Uhhh... I would have just used Window's Movie maker... but this works too. Nicely synced.

Only thing stupid about Microsoft I don't like is that they give you the demo for their video editor crap. If you don't have the full version, you can probably download it though Vuze or Limewire for free ( ). They have a neat tool where you can make a video screen and place how-ever many videos/pictures into it where you want. Only dumb thing is they can't overlap, but perfect for the window effect you wanted. If you get it, real easy to find in the edit options.

It's something new Bill Gates schemed in his evil cave not too long ago, to just hack off a few dollars from PC prices by giving all windows the demo of Windows Movie Maker instead of the whole program.
