I've been wondering about mod compatibility with expansions and patches. In BFME, I remember you have to make your mod for X expansion with X Patch. How do you think this will be for SC2? That is, how was it for WC3?
I'm hoping a mod will work for the version it's made for and any following expansions and patches... That seems to be the way maps work in SC1 at least.

For WC3, a lot of the maps are actually called mods, as they mod the actual game but in a map, like DotA. I'm not sure how they will be regarding patch-wise, however I can only hope that all mods will work for all versions of the game. I'll have to ask around really how it was done in WC3.

Yeah... I mean, they've still put patches out for SC1 ten years later. I want my mods to always work with the latest patch, and I don't want to wait 10+ years before starting.
Oh, yeah, the map mod things confused me. I had a look at a few WC3 modding sites and
Anyone know how it was for WC3?

WC3 is modded via the map maker I think, and you install the custom models etc. to use in the map maker which lets you make custom units.

so it will probably have the same compatibility options as maps do? It could be used with whatever patch, at least, and any later expansions, I guess. Anything that includes all the units you made, or whatever.
