My bible teacher

Damn, wish I could make a whole career out of 'teaching' a single literary piece. Fiction at that.
Being a total douche.

That's often a misnomer since they're usually volunteers at a church.

Apparently this individual worked at his school. Also, in the UK we have what's called 'Religious Education'. From 5 til 11 there are compulsory assemblies where teachers - by law - have to make kids sing hymns and learn bible stories and put their hands together for prayer. By all means tell the moralistic stories, but this is indoctrination.
From 11+ religious education is supposed to encompass all different religions but in reality it just amounts to Christianity with a little bit of Judaism thrown in. I mean, the only difference is one has circumcision, a really unstylish hat and an adversion to pork, and speaks in a dead language, while the other ignores the bit of the book that the Jews use. (Now that I look at it, there should be more comparisons drawn between Judaism and the Welsh, with Christians being the English as most of the boxes are being ticked across the board here. :tongevil: )

Since we've moved onto religion, I suppose I should mention this funny thing I overheard on the TV...apparently Cliff Richard was giving this interview on Christianity. Apparently he's a more well-known Christian than Mother Theresa and Jesus. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, Jesus wasn't a Christian. How up yourself would you have to be to make a religion about yourself? :xcahik_: More to the point, surely Cliff Richard is proof that there is no God, or if there is, that he loves deaf people best, while the rest of us are condemned to torment. What a bastard God is.

Question. Who the fuck is Cliff Richard?

For someone who's so well known, you'd think I'd have at least heard of the guy. I have not. Therefore, I give less than a damn about anything he says.

Heh, I envy your American naivety...I wish I hadn't heard of Cliff Richard. Think Gary Glitter, only he hasn't been found guilty or even arrested for it yet.

We have something like that here too,or had it when I was growing up.
I was the first one in my whole school to act out against RE classes and so on.
I (and eventually my sisters) spent the classes up at office.
This was when I was around 10 or so and have refused to take part in any religious rituals or practices.

I had that, but my primary school was catholic so it's justified (it's the only one in town, so yeah). I don't think public schools do that.

I would advise we go back on topic, but heck... that isn't my job.

Not our public schools here in the US. Biblical education is optional, in most. Other than that one bible class we had, you will be the decedent of an ape in the rest of your classes. Science is boring with religion anyway.

Heh, yeah. Science class in a creationist school would be the lulz.

"How does a car engine work?"
"Because God wills it to be so."
"A+ Timmy!"

Sorry, but any qualification that comes from such a class would be taken with a pinch of salt...

Because you are religious? If so, please explain why you believe. I'm into a good discussion.
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

Just kidding :p Wanted to know how you responded. Sorry for that? :shiftee:

However, I do think that you cannot break down someone's beliefs just because you disagree. Shame on you, puppeteer :)
