Mapper, graphics artist, leader, worker, manipulator, scientist, philosopher, nut-job, writer, chicken and steak addict... what's left for me now? Well I recently completed something I've been working on for a very long time. Now I can add composer to my list.

I always appreciated the old needle and disk music with the static and imperfections that add to the music. I especially love distorted audio. But some time ago, I had an idea. What if distorted audio was caused by ghosts trying to speak to us? This piece is something I fragmented together from distorted audio. It's a record player playing classical music. As the music goes on, it is haunted by a tormented spirit, breaking the audio and speaking through music. It's quite beautifully done, if I can say so.

I won't say everything you have to listen for. It's intriguing to listen to this and catch details. And please, discuss what you think and notice. I've spent a lot of time on this. And something fun to try is listening to it on Windows Media player with the sound waves on it. It spikes when the spirit is there.

106 views and not a peep? Something's up. I really do want a public opinion on my new composer career just in case I'm stumbling in on my face and thinking it feels nice. ... Metaphor intended.

Oh yeah, sorry. I gave it a listen and I think it's quite a nice piece. Smooth and easy to enjoy, and the record-scratch sound added something without being overwhelming. I'd say keep it up.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

Sweet.

... Though your response sounded coerced. Almost awkward. ... Something's fishy around here,

Not forced, just that my musical criticism isn't quite as advanced as my literary criticism. With music I tend to think either "I like this" or "I don't like this", and it seldom gets more complex than that. With writing I can disseminate, dissect and dissertate to unfathomable depths, but I never learned much in the way of musical theory. I play all my instruments by ear.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

I see. Well at least you ended up saying something (unlike the other 99 or so people who saw this topic). Hmm... bizarre for more than half of you to keep quiet.

You reckon your reputation might have something to do with that?

If it has, that's a shame. This part of the forum is supposed to be about sharing your work and receiving constructive feedback, regardless of who you are. Pasidon has as much right to receive helpful comments as anyone else.

Really, this forum is more for giving generic compliments without going further in-depth. Anyway, in order to stay on topic, I will give your work a listen in a moment, Pasidon.

Edit: Yeah, it's pretty cool. Although you really overdid some parts, completely destroying the sense of subtlety. For one, I'd have gradually implemented the grain and worked towards a more compelling climax instead of having several ghost appearances, and perhaps have the ghost say something as well.

Thank ye' Rom.

The ghost was speaking with music, with certain emotions being expressed by her under it. It was a dark, yet sorrowful tune. This represents what the ghost is feeling. The ghost is sad, but she is also upset about something. It was made without an answer.

But yesh, some parts seemed over done I can say. Sometimes the actual distorted audio got in the way.

You reckon your reputation might have something to do with that?

Feared diplomat?
