Believe

Master Chief, Spartan-117, "John".

Book of John: 1:7

"He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe."

Revelation: 1:17-18

Below is likely a reference to the lifepod scene in the pillar of autumn level in Halo1:

"When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.

I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades."

Something noteworthy below:

John 1:17

"For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."

Therefore Master Chief must be Jesus Christ!

Quote:
More evidence of this occurs at the end of Halo 3. When Master Chief is listed MIA, he disappears from humanity, much like how Jesus died on the cross. The line "Wake me when you need me." is also another reference to Jesus in that he will return someday, most likely when humanity is suffering again. After Chief had separated, during the ending video on legendary, Chief and Cortana say to each other "It's finished" which seems to refer to John 19:30

"30 When Jesus therefore had received the wine, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost (or Holy Spirit)."

His cryotube may be compared to the tomb in which Christ was buried.

Symbolism ahoy! :p

To be fair, the lore explains away the MIA thing - all of the SPARTANs who die in the books are listed as MIA, no matter what actually happened to them. Even if their remains are found and identified, they're listed MIA as a propaganda tool.

You should also note other Bible/religious allegories - The Flood, the Covenant, the fact that the Master Chief saves humanity from both, Gravemind quotes "I am a monument to all your sins" (the entire point of the biblical flood), halos (if they're the only way to defeat the Flood totally, it would imply only faith will save you from sins...alternately, it argues that only interfering meddling heretics and sinners are responsible for the Flood waking - either way it works. What I wonder is why the Halo installations are so crawling with Flood despite the fact it's supposed to be a weapon to help wipe them out? I know it only kills sentient life large enough to accommodate Flood parasites but still - you'd think the Halo rings would be Flood-free zones), etc.

The Forerunners were too attached to sentient life-forms to wipe out the Flood (as well as humanity, Sangheili, the Prophets, etc) so they kept some specimens alive on the Installations for examination. Apparently they didn't take into account that the superweapons' would kill them off too :p

Humanity are Forerunner - 343 told that in the third game, however it was kind of obvious because of the way he calls you 'Reclaimer' and wants you to contain the outbreak.

Master Chief is just a cyborg who goes around shooting things. It's like comparing Jesus to Robo-Cop.

Any protagonist can be compared to jesus...

Some have a whole lot of contrasts, others have a few, but they all can be.
