The BCD missions in Destination Paris are still based on a very old conversion of the original maps.

Right now I'm working on a higher quality conversion. What do you think, should I proceed?

upscaled and color corrected map:

Yes, I would enjoy replaying hd. The challange will be to switch all coordinates to the new scale in all .mis .bas .gsc. At least the normal missions, mods in old scale bcd will have the same problem, but I guess we can skip that fix for now. Maybe the owner of these mods can do it theirself.

@herbert3000 Really nice job with the conversion, mate! May I ask you please which AI do you use for upscaling graphics? The results look decent and fitting.

I have a tool that scans all scripts for certain keywords and multiplies the values by a scale factor. Unfortunately the updated script files don't work yet, the game crashes when I start the mission.

I used https://neural.love/ to upscale the image. My plan is to pay 10 € for the cheapest subscription, upload all maps and cancel the subscription again. I think I can afford that :)

Back in the mid 2000s I used to drag my far-from-state-of-the-art compact camera everywhere I went, capturing possibly everything that, after some adjustment, could end up in one of my favourite games Blitzkrieg. Trees, bushes, terrain, houses, literally anything, as the game had a surprisingly user-friendy resource editor. As you know about old habits, they tend to die hard, so when I'm dragging my current far-from-state-of-the-art DSLR camera with me on locations, I still think how awesome this or that could look like ingame, and I'm still thinking about older games, and this time Commandos 2 specifically. One of the few things I really envy of C2HD, are the beautiful weather effects, including water, and I think that put the bug in me like two years ago, obviously knowing that it would be impossible to match visually. As it happens, I live in a city commonly referred to as "The city of rivers" for a literal reason, so during the years I have accumulated a decent amount of photos of water body rippled by the wind, lakes, rivers, ponds, streams, that again after certain adjustments could end up in Commandos 2. I know it's not a game changer, only a minor aesthetic upgrade, but I still would be glad with some feedback of the first prototype from Burma. Thank you.

This looks really good Andrew! Congratulations on this great result.

And this is done with a series of images? It's looks like a shader at work, because of the shadows that (in particular) the Colditz water has in it.

Thank you for your feedbacks, gentlemen, and I have updated the original post with a preview of ocean tiles from Das Boot, Silent Killers.

@extrano1955: As soon as I've come up with an acceptable solution for all the maps that has water in it, which is pretty much all except for Paris, and a couple of bonus maps, I'll be happy to share the files.

@Jeroen: Unfortunatley no shaders are available, these are just regular photos received some special treatment in Photoshop, like static ripples and reflection, edited into a single, more-or-less seamless 256x256 sized indexed bmp file.

It's impressive that you could create such amazing textures and squeeze them into 256x256 bitmaps! :thumbsuphappy:

I especially love the water in Burma, it looks super realistic.

This was one of the profile pages for Commandos 2 HD Remaster. Does the picture on the mid-left with the guys sitting atop a Sherman tank familiar to you? Do we have an original, a whole maybe?

Edit: found something similar: https://cdn.mobygame...-back-cover.jpg

Hi everyone, I'm back!

After I lost my progress due to a stupid mistake, I had to start all over again. Thanks Obama.

I finally finished the conversion of the 5th BCD mission (capture Colonel Below).

The coordinates of all soldiers, objects and routes have also been adapted to the upscaled map. As the map is now larger, the soldiers need longer to make their rounds. This could have an impact on the gameplay. If the soldiers' routes were synchronised with each other, they are now probably out of sync. I hope I didn't mess up anything else.

You can download the updated files here: https://www.mediafir...scaled.zip/file
