This weekend at Blizzcon 2010 Blizzard announced that since the launch of Wings of Liberty, the map designers have been working on a side project, making four Mods that will be released to the community for free.

You can check out the map descriptions here.

Now, luckily for us, they did say that all the new assets and features that they made for these mods will be available for our use in the future. This includes new UI additions and some work on the inventory system, and some other things. They've also added a mouse-tracking system which is something I'm quite happy about, as I attempted to make a mod that was quite similar to their example of it, but the feature was not there at the time.

I myself played two demos of the maps, StarJeweled and Blizzard DOTA. They were both quite good and features quite a few new assets that we might use int he future. StarJeweled had some nice UI elements that could be useful. Blizzard DOTA had many new assets including 12 hero characters from various Blizzard games, many new doodads and objects, and a seemingly entirely-new tileset.

I didn't get a chance to play Left2Die or Aiur Chef
Greetings, community.
