At my household, there were only a few leftovers from last night available for dinner tonight. I figured I'd get something else for a change, so I ordered carryout from Vocelli Pizza. I got a regular sized Chicken Pesto Stromboli (it was fairly large though) for $7.99 and a slice of fudge chocolate cake for $3.99. The sub total is $11.98, there is a 'recovery fee' of 12 cents, and the sales tax is 72 cents. The overall total is $12.82. All in all, the food was great and the cost is not that bad. My father commented on how various cuisine businesses (like Vocelli Pizza) have good costs for main dishes, but they really get you on costs for appetizers and desserts (for instance, the same kind of cake I got tonight could have been bought from various other cuisine places for $2.50 or less, whereas $3.99 is kind of pricey for just a single slice of cake).

Anyways, I'm wondering what "recovery fee" means. Does anyone here know what it implies?

Probably related to the "take out" part of the equation. I get nailed with like a $2 surcharge when I get a delivery.

They only charge 12 cents for delivery? Jesus that's cheap. And by the sound of things he didn't get it delivered anyway.

I can't even imagine what that might relate to, unless it's a surcharge for using a credit card...

Best bet, go in and ask.

Here is the response I got from one of their customer service representatives:

"Thank you for your patience. The owner of the Westminster location charges a recovery fee for the use of debit/credit card.

This is the only store within our system that is applying this charge.

If you have any further questions or comments, please email us or call us at 1-800-Vocelli.

All right, so I got an answer as to what a Recovery Fee is. However, I only paid with dollar bills, not with a debit/credit card. I'm looking at the receipt right now, it doesn't say anything about a debit/credit card or paying with dollar bills, yet it does say "Payment type:" at the bottom with blank space next to it. I guess there was a malfunction while they were processing the financial data on the register. No matter, this tiny fee was only 12 cents. Also of an amusing small note is at the bottom of the receipt it says:

ORDER SUMMARY
1 Pizze
1 Desserts
2 Total Items

The receipt has the Dessert Entry in the plural sense, when I only got one dessert. Hmm, it seems their register is prone to making bloopers (I.E. malfunctioning) on occasion.

For those of you who don't know, Westminster is a city in the state of Maryland; this state is in the United States of America (also known as the USA).

Ash commented "They only charge 12 cents for delivery? Jesus that's cheap. And by the sound of things he didn't get it delivered anyway.". That's right, I chose Carry-Out, so I drove to the pizzeria, paid for the food & picked it up there, and drove back to my house.

So some guy in his basement who owns the pizza place wants to tax people on his own benefit...
