While I was not the one to suggest we black out the front page, I am wholeheartedly in support of it, and completely against SOPA. Even though I don't live in the USA, this bill could have such an effect on the world's internet that I cannot sit back and pretend it doesn't matter.

Phoenix Rising, head of mapping. Thanks to everyone who got us to the position below!

It's scary how applicable that quote is.
Don't think, Fingan, you aren't properly equipped for it.

When I saw the page I had a little (please pardon my language) "fuck yeah" moment.

Then again, Lucasarts could bring down this website if they felt inclined to do so I believe.

Spontaneous executive decision. I don't want to politicize the boards, but this legislation would threaten the very existence of modding. It's literally so evil that there's only one position we can morally take, which is opposition.

Lucas could serve us with a cease and desist order, but it would have to go to court to accomplish anything with legal binding. I would maintain that everything we do is fair use - we make no income whatsoever - and, in fact, our existence directly benefits Empire at War sales. A judge would decide the extent of the intellectual property rights on a case-by-case basis.

Under SOPA/PIPA, all one would have to do to shut us down is report a single item on Revora (any of the network sites or forums) that is perceived to infringe on copyrights - indeed, the very quote I'm using would qualify - and the entire network would be blacklisted. Without due process or recourse. It's not likely we would exist under those conditions, hence the January 18 blackout in protest.

If you too stand in opposition and want to do something, check out some of the bigger sites today: Wikipedia, reddit, and Google all have information - even Wookieepedia and Mod DB! Either way, the regular site will resume at midnight GMT-5.

Just goes to highlight what a mockery politics in my country has become. When the hell did I move to China?

Believe me, I've seen them. I was actually reading on wikipedia and had forgotten about the blackout.

The funniest to me though has been a friend who showed me a few porn sites that were protesting SOPA. I got a huge kick out of that.

And yes, I'm against SOPA just as much as the next guy who knows anything about the internet (other than that it is a series of tubes).

And it appears that SOPA and PIPA have been defeated. However, we should keep our guard up, for complacency allows for things like this to happen.

Well I can't wait for the tens of millions of fraud victims as soon as one of the big players gets hacked again.

Yep. I can't think of anything cool sounding about this. Something about things being the same with different names.
