Not that I plan on buying it right in exam season, but how good do you think it is? I admit I don't really know the Diablo franchise, but I've been reading some mixed reviews. http://arstechnica.c...eaving-refined/

Do you play single player or multi player? If single player, have you experienced any connection troubles so far? I'm pretty sceptical about requiring an always-on Internet connection just to be able to play alone.

Yea, I've done both single and multiplayer. The issue with the game is that Blizzard has a very hard lock on its loot and grinding systems, meaning it all has to be online for some gawd awful reason. I don't blame you for being skeptical. They forgot that this isn't an MMO, I suppose. There are advantages to this, such as never having to save since everything is all on their servers and crashes never leave you with lost progress, but I find more disadvantages to it such as depending on internet for stability and good frame-rate. I got buck-nothing internet that can hardly run YouTube, but it runs surprisingly well. You may encounter some frame-rate issues with unstable internet, but ultimately it runs well, even if you have people in your party or not. I've also had a few server crashes, but that was earlier towards release. Blizzard probably fixed that.

The system requirements are low, as I even played it on my 1 year old laptop before I had my computer built. Maxed graphics look very nice with sharp physics, but I have a problem with the Blizzard art style. Max FPS and textures still look wonky here and there due to the game's cartoony nature. That's my one gripe about Blizzard: they can't seem to get away from that shotty low resolution graphic style... some mob textures look dead awful, in my picky opinion. But really, that's more of an advantage to people with lesser computers since the game really isn't all that demanding. But if you don't look too closely at the textures, it looks nice, the looting system is addictive, the leveling is fun and I really am enjoying it. But I should recommend you play it alone at first if you care for the story. I'm not really a fan of Blizzard's dull humor or quick-to-the-point writing style, but Diablo has had a good running story thus far. At least in the cut-scenes, anyway.

Some friend of mine was disappointed because there was nothing really "new" since the last one. Everything might be polished as hell and available online, but if you've played the previous ones this one isn't that spectacular. he's a cynic though, but I'm inclined to believe him until a steam sale

Well derp... if they made it different, people would complain. This is Blizzard... they have no choice but to stick with what they know and make slight improvements so their terrible fan base doesn't decide to attack them.

By the way... if anyone here is a wizard, I have The Swami in the auction house right now, which is a very rare hat designed for the wizard. Mine has been reported to have one of the highest armor ratings in the world for The Swami at 183, and I'm selling it with a buyout at 2,000,000. I'd love it if I cared for wizardly crap.

Nope.... changing my review... Diablo III is a loot based co-op experience that had the potential to be enjoyable, but due to poor security standards and purely online gameplay, it is unstable and at high risk of exposure to account hacking. A lot of time is intended to be dedicated to get the full experience of the game, but the high rate of hacked accounts weighs down the entire structure of the game. Now as a personal note, I was just hacked today with all of my personal items taken and now gone. My only option now is to roll back my account and hope to get everything back. But the thought of someone benefiting from my loss is infuriating beyond belief... but apparently many people have been hacked and are still being hacked, and Blizzard is still keeping the servers up and not resolving the issue. I don't need to tell how how wrong this is. Now I just have to sit on my hands and wait for customer support to roll back my account.... guhhh... don't buy Diablo. No, no, no... don't buy a Blizzard game ever.

I've read this elsewhere and the canon was that people who got hacked simply used insufficient security (i.e. it was their fault). So now I wonder:

• Did you use a mobile authenticator for your Battle.net account?
• Did you reuse a password you used elsewhere or was it unique?
• Did you use the same e-mail address you use normally?

My password was "uuv89duck". Just made up and impossible to guess. I make up passwords on all my stuff... this was the job of someone who knew what they were doing and has done it many times before. They were quick about it. They logged on on my account when I was on, kicked me off and I immediately went for a password change. They changed my password seconds before I got the chance, so I was locked out. I got back under 3 minutes, and it was too late. This story is the same as quite a few others on the Blizzard forums... and they are obviously blaming Blizzard for it. I might as well since they refused to shut down everything with the hack spree started.

Sure your computer is 100% clean? I guess if the hackers have found a way to brute-force, that password would have been pretty easy to get. also, I guess they can just check lists of known gamer e-mails to see if the response of the server implies that the account has a diablo3 account to it.

Best method for good passwords are multiple words with numbers in them. Like "1greenBananaBombInTheWhiteHouse2Nite". Harder to crack since they are much longer, but usually a lot easier to remember since there can be logic in them. I've made 3-4 new passwords based on such sentences the last year, and I've yet to forget one of them.

It seems mostly Blizzards fault from the sound of it, whether or not they are working on fixing this issue is unknown atm.

Sorry to hear about you having been hacked, that sounds terrible! I'm glad there has been some progress for you. I have seen pictures of the pony level, it looks quite funky I think.

I've been on the fence about buying Diablo 3, my main gripes with it are the amount of clicking you have to do, and the fact that you have to be connected to their server. My internet connection isn't the most brilliant, and I've heard about lag from people who do have a good internet connection. So far I haven't bought the game yet (it's pretty much sold out in most places anyway), I might play more Torchlight first really (also some clicking there, though) (not that I play a lot of games lately).

Torchlight 2 looks to be more entertaining, Might be doing some co-op in that with friends. Beyond that, only civilization and other management games really gets time from me these days. Dwarf fortress and gods and kings being the primary games I play atm.

Yes, get Torchlight 2. If you get invested in one of these games, it should not be DIablo. I would if I had any good friends on there, and dungeon crawlers are best done with people you know. I hate doing co-op with strangers... But yea, Torchlight. It's faster paced, has much better story elements and dialogue, has a much meatier sense of progression and best of all.... it's made by the same people who made the original Diablo: Runic Games. These people know how to make dungeon crawlers fun and how to make them respectable. Blizzard is terrible with dialogue, story and progression. Wolrd of Warcraft is evidence to their blunders. I think Diablo III is a better looking game than TL, but I don't think the story or art takes itself seriously enough. But I will admit... this auction house stuff and varieties of loot makes the game addicting. I'm not sure about the level of difficulty TL manages to rise to, or what gear is required to advance through it, but all I can say is Diablo puts hardcore to the test and makes a really juicy challenge.

By the way, the general chat on DIablo is just people griping about how terrible the game is. I'm dead serious. If there's one thing worse than Blizzard, it's their fanbase.
