I've just applied the overdue upgrade to IP.Board 3.3.4. The changes it brings are, however, mostly invisible to the user.

On this occasion, I've also installed taken the time to install a shoutbox application. Think of this as a trial period for us to decide if we want to keep it and how it should be configured. If you don't want to see the shoutbox at the top of the board index, you can either collapse it or disable it entirely in the shoutbox preferences ("My Prefs"). If you have feedback, be sure to post here.

Looks potential this shoutbox thing, we'll have to test it out.

Anyone know what's with the notifications on the Shoutbox? Keeps showing up as having 1 notification after I post, even when nobody else has done so after me. Or is that just a misjudging of how we're notified.

That's not a notification, it's the active user count. I too find it confusing though so I've disabled it. You can now see the active user stats at the bottom of the page instead.

I'd hate to add to the griping since it's cool, but it would also be nice to have the active user list near it so I don't have to scroll all the way down just to see who's on it. But not necessary... I can get used to all the scrolling.

Well, it's a shoutbox, not a real chat system. I'm looking at other options also and stumbled upon Cometchat yesterday. Looks decent enough, but I'm not sure if it won't just pointlessly hog up server resources. Also, MySQL, PHP and Javascript aren't really the right tools for live chat. I also registered an IRC channel #revora at freenode that we could promote more aggressively.

its not necessarily a chat-box so just because persons are online, doesn't mean they will be using the shout-box.
Like myself, i skim through whats happening in the box, then i go about my business, spying on everyone's profiles and latest posts

the shoutbox is really nice to have, but it should be treated as such. you could always join the Skype group or IRC

Guhhh... invite the boy, Dig.

I like how Tady's argument was derailed by himself... "I would like this to change, but it's not really important if I'm not lazy." Just now noticed the hilarity of that.

Yea but only a week ago I realized Trillian has the possibility to join into such groups via Skype. If I did realized it right.

*installs trillian*

while installing trillian i got some twitter/youtube malware, probably not related to trillian

well this is interesting, Trillian is very different from what i expected
I thought it was a client that was simply able to send messages to skype, msn and all that though a ghost hack like another client did, however its more intuitive, allowing the usage of several login accounts, allowing you to actually log in via skype, msn, yahoo, etc etc. even facebook and twitter.

and OH GOD, its docked like facebook to the side, KILL IT WITH FIRE!
*cough*
so the issue I am concerned is, that to join a skype group, you have to sign into skype first, join the group and view it in trillian

GAAAAH - I connected my skype account, and now its trying to load chat logs.... its MURDERRRR
and every freaking chatlog in history

it seems that if you have a skype group already existing in skype, its not saved/transfered into trillian and must be added somehow manually via trillion

I'll continue my search, if you could give me your skype name, i might be able to add you to the group, the user name you gave me before didn't find any results in skype

wait, i spelt it wrong.... OH GOD, its a WOOKIE

I HAVE a Skype name, DIGI. Which is graiondilach. In fact, on my Linux I have to use the native client because I don't know an alternative.
