So, the internet traffic out of Syria have been strangled since yesterday, which is interesting in many ways. Is it the government's attempt to hide some extraordinary attack on the population, or is it a desperate attempt to stop information about their doomed situation to spread and make the rats leave the ship even sooner.

Considering the other revolutions in the district lost their Internet shortly before the demise of their regimes, I'm willing to wager this is a defensive move by the Syrian government. I guess it also could be trying to hide some massive slaughter of rebels, but cell-phone cameras don't need internet to record and store videos of such acts.

Even still, I don't expect this conflict to be finished this year. But eh, we had a good year last year, with Kim dying around Christmas, so who knows.

Oh snap... when I read the topic title, I thought they shut off all the internets.

Well, I didn't even know Syria had internet, so that's a surprise to me, firstly. But maybe it's an expense they can't afford? Other than being the not-so proud home of Jesus, they really don't have that much tourism or... things that make income. What the heck do they do other then act very threatening for no reason?

Yeah, we are writing this because Syria shut off the INTERNET!

Would have made for some fine Danger 5 episode, but beyond that your assumptions falls a bit flat :/

We say that now, then somehow end up living there in 5 years.

Dukie, what's I'm saying is that it costs money to keep up internet. And Syria has been ruled by sticky old men for years who probably haven't seen a meme in their entire life. And if you think about it, these people are more isolated than a tree in Isengard, They probably don't see any benefits in the internet, so they shut it down since it seems like a wasted expense to them. I like this theory since parts of southern China did the same thing like 5 years ago. Not sure if they changed their minds... but it was a lack of understanding from their leaders that caused the web blackout for them.

Oh, and there's also Korea. They shut off their internet at night. Internet curfews actually seem more reasonable than total blackouts, but hey... I ain't no communist, so I don't have to suffer for terrible reasons.
