A few years ago I got a Wacom Bamboo drawing tablet. I don't use it a lot, but have produced some doodles during 'phases' (lasting about a week each). Here they are:

A work of art from a colleague, copied (by redrawing, not drawing over, hence the head is too small :p) and painted.

You may know this guy. I copied (literally, painted over) the form from the included image, but painted and shaded it myself. As you can probably see, it's not quite finished, because at some point I just didn't feel like doing that.

I know, it's not much or great, but fortunately they're just for fun and my livelihood doesn't depend on them :)

I think the Mario redraw is quite good. Especially if you just doodle now and than...

First is... I'll have nightmares... https://dl.dropbox.c...3ex4hbp/Boo.jpg

Second is MUCH better in quality and style but its looking a bit green, and not the background. his skin has a slight green hue that's unsettling.

My advice is to have a colour pallet worked out from the start

Hope to see more!

I was actually looking at getting a Wacom tablet are they good?

The Mario is good except for the green tinge to it but that can be fixed easy.

Wacoms are great, but don't fall for the small portable ones, anything less then 9' your really constricted to the palm of your hand

the problem comes in how the pen works to screen

you have local mouse offset, or scaling position.

if you prefer to nudge the mouse with a pencil, get a small tablet else you have poor accuracy

Yeah...I was kind of afraid for that :p

I'm slightly red-green colour blind, so picking a skin colour is rather challenging for me. It's kind of a handicap when colouring.

(No offense taken by the way)

I have the Bamboo, which is the cheap starter model:

Compared to drawing with your mouse, it's 300% better. However, if you're serious about art, you should really get a larger one.

If you're really serious, get a Cintiq:

It's the screen and tablet combined, so you'll just be drawing on the screen. I've had the pleasure of working with one (a 22HD) at work a few times, it's the shit! It'll also cost you :p

I was actually given one, but I still prefer using the mouse and keyboard.  It's hard to believe that I'm using the old fashion way...

Believe I would love a Cintiq they still go for $2000+ don't they?

Maybe one day but for now a cheap one will have to do.

I was looking on Ebay a couple days ago and the Bamboos seem to be going for about $50 or so, which I might be able to spare next month.

If you want to fix the green tinge just Eye dropper the guy in the Cintiq picture's face.

Same here. Keep track of that pen otherwise you will have a useless tablet. =( (But I got PS Elements with mine as a special.)

I'm currently borrowing my sister's until Christmas, but I gotta say... I love them so much, you have no idea if you haven't tried 'em yourself.
