"Lucasfilm has announced they will disregard post-Return of the Jedi Expanded Universe material in the new Star Wars movie trilogy. Newly-conflicting material will be spun-off under a new "Legends" banner."

<DevXen> Today I was at the store and saw a Darth Vader action figure that said "Choking Hazard." It was great.

Cool well I guess we'll ignore the new movies then...

Unless we want to scrap the Thrawn Offensive (unlikely) and the Dark Empire period (possibly, it's got so many superweapons).

I hope the new story arc will center around the children of jarjar and amidala, they could be jedi with a new mind confuse (aka mind fck) ability. I'd also like to see the characters from the christmas special again. The main villain could be darth dookie, an evil sht, I mean sith.

Btw, you don't have to scrap anything, just call it a "legend".

Ignoring SW:EU is similar to removing Borg storyline from Star Trek (probably 1000+ books on the subject alone), Shadow War from Babylon 5 or Goa'uld from SG-1.

Bloody madness, but what else can you expect from Disney and inept "director" like Abrams? He screwed ST so-badly I still have nightmares after only 1 attempt to watch both new-ST movies.

Meesa Jar Jar Abrams, meesa nuke fandoms.

edit: Just to be clear: drunk and stoned out of my mind, I could come up with a better scifi movie than Jar Jar Abrams.

Well I won't be very popular around here, but I actually enjoyed the new StarTrek movies (minus the lens flare and Kirk). I think if you watch them as scifi action-adventure flicks as a nontrekkie, and do not compare them to the originals, they're not bad at all. They're certainly better than their contemporary competitor scifis. I think the new starwarses will be ok, if not compared to the original trilogy. I don't expect anything groundbraking, just 3 new scifi movies full of action and adventure (and probably lensflare). And at least it's not UweBalls in the directors chair.

I'm neutral in the case of scrapping the afterEndor EU, I never really liked the jediclones, darkjedi, emperor reborn, darkluke, you-zhan-wock stuff, although I'll miss Thrawn, I think he was a well made character. Plus I still want to know what happened to Chewies family after christmas.

If they are unoriginal enough to recycle the villain in the second Trek movie (I doubt I'll spoil anything but still) then I'm sure we will see elements of Thawn recycled as well, even if it is in a lesser role/cameo.

That's a big problem with Hollywood, everyone wants to be original but can't really any more.

There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no death, there is the Force.

They call it 'being a slave to the material'.

Well if Hollywood decides to screen Thrawn offensive with Thrawn winning at the end, then bring it on.  I will ignore canon for the sake of good story.* :evgr:

* - Nothing to hide, that I love Thrawn character very much indeed..

Everyone lets keep in mind that they kinda allready did this for the New Jedi Order story arc in the EU.

Remember, Lucasarts was hiring writers with NO knowledge of star wars who had literally read nothing but notes on the characters.

seriously, i think i might cast all of my Star Wars stuff and become a Trekkie.

Oh wait, that got ruined too

B5 is always an option, but that series is long dead and i fear that renewed interest will bring a reboot.

same for Stargate.

good thing I still have Halo and Mass Effect. even with the whole weak ME3 ending issue, that ending was better than this.

just for laughs, you think one of those online petitions would work? its not like there aren't a lot of pissed off fans out there

not sure what good it'll do, but i don't see anyone else trying anything

Honestly, all we can do is let it die.

Enough massive properties stop making money, eventually someone will decide they want to resume making money.

LOL. To some extent I'm happy that no DS9 (my #1 ST series by miles) movie was ever created, but on the other hand so many untold stories remained. With Dominion War they did what Stagate Atlantis. Chopped & changed storyline and squeezed in 7 seasons (or 5 for Atlantis). Atlantis hurts me very much too. At some stage in the 4th/5th season they just decided to finish some stuff decisively without too many explanations (e.g. killing Weir or Asgards from Pegasus galaxy, they just disappeared after 2 episodes). Atlantis had huge potential for lasting much longer than SG-1.

One thing about B5 I have to say I'm pretty much dead certain that it won't appear again on TV in some new series. B5 Crusade had interesting premise but it departed too much from original cast. Still as long as JJA is kept under guard in some Hollywood prison of lost tapes and broken Betacams I'm open to something new on B5 front... we will wait for you...

On a related note, the casting for Episode VII has been revealed and it seems that the main character will be relatively young (22) if the casting order has any relevance to their importance in the movie.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

The press release had all the compassion of a multinational corporation.  Fine, I've conceded to expect as much.  Substantially though, I don't see how this is much different than the situation with the prequels, where George told his story and the EU adjusted.  There's only so much damage that can be done in a character-driven film.  Not much of the EU was affected by the prequels - granted, the timeline was held in reserve prior to their release.  With the sequels, they can change the labels of canon on the Holocron, but can't erase millions of fans' perceptions of what constitutes the GFFA.  They're not going to say "Thrawn never really happened" in the opening crawl.  I would expect that it will become apparent that the Solo and Skywalker kids no longer officially exist.  That throws off a lot of story arcs - Young Jedi Knights, New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force - but does little to the Thrawn Trilogy, Dark Empire, or anything else that pertains to the GCW setting of PR.  Based on the information we know now, I'm not worried about the implications of 34 ABY.

It also throws out ALL of the Zahn novels, so no Thrawn or Talon Karrde, Noghori, Katana flee dreadnoughts, Garm Bel Ilbis, or Admiral Pealleaon.

So yeah, fuck.
