I was three quarters the way doing this before and the page crashed, so this will be a significantly let detailed version - probably for the best - and is a guide for BT Home Hub Users, but can easily be adapted for many ISP.

If you've been awake as of late, you would have realised that the connecting to a game in zero hour on the new C&C client is as likely as vladmir putin going on x-factor, however following these steps below will change all this.

:excl: THIS METHOD USES ENABLING A DMZ ZONE WHICH CAN PUT YOUR COMPUTER AT INCREASED RISK - IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT IN DOING THIS YOU MAY AS WELL END READING THIS NOW AND GO PLAY SIMS AS YOU PROBABLY WON'T CONNECT  :excl:

Simply put, adding your PC to the DMZ removes it from your routers firewall and allows it to be hacked - MORE EASILY. One could argue any computer connected to the internet and going on forums / downloading files is also risky and we all accept these consequences - and I doubt anyone is spying on your wireless network waiting for a small lapse in security  ^_^

Also, you can disable DMZ after your ownage session so you are only at risk during the gameplay - now that's been discussed, lets move onto the guide.

Its important to know, like mentioned before, this guide is for BT Home Hub Users, but can effortlessly be adapted for your router / setup.

  1. Enable DMZ in your router. The DMZ will most likely be found under settings >> advanced settings >> configuration/settings.

  2. Once you have enabled the DMZ, add your PC to the device that will be assigned to this demilitarised (no router firewall) area. If you're not on BT Home Hub you may need to enter an IP Address instead of selecting a registered device, to do this simply assign your PC a Static IP Address and add this to the DMZ.

  3. Forward necessary ports. DMZ opens all ports so this shouldn't really be a problem, but I just did this to make sure I could do everything possible my end to make sure it works. For BT Home Hub users, simply select Generals Zero Hour from the drop down list and your PC from the device and all appropriate ports will be opened. If you are big noob and not on BT, you can use  help set this up for you. If you are doing this manually, opening port 16000 should be enough.

  4. Once you have forwarded the relevant ports, you want to enable your Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) - this enables a wide range of games and applications to communicate with each other. This is usually already turned on.

  5. That is everything on the router side of things, next is to change some settings on your C&C Online icon on your desktop. To do this, simply right click on it and select properties >> compatibility. You want to ensure that the game is currently running in compatibility mode for your desktop. For some reason, running as Administrator wouldn't let me connect online and stopped be logging in - anyone else experience this?  :thumbsdownsmiley:  :ermm:

Note: Previously on the GameSpy Servers I had to run as Windows XP - however now I must run as Windows 7 otherwise I have IGN issues.

Anyway - just thought i'd share with you what worked for me, and it helps anyone out then I think it's impressive micro.

Thanks for the read, any comments will be appreciated. Good Luck!  :toasting:

Not working... Still the same proplems with people who have DMZ open and everything. Game starts, but then freezes totally, no disconnection menu or anything. Needs to restart Gene.

Hi everyone,

I registered earlier this month and I tried the server, I could connect just fine. Now when I try, when I am in menu to connect, the game tells me that my email is not valid, how can I fix this ?

Thanks beforehand and thanks to people who develop the server !
