I HAVE READ THE HOW-TO THREAD
  • The title should contain the game you are having issues with - C&C3
  • What version of the game are you using - Origin download
  • What kind of error do you get and at what time? - cannot connect to backend server (anytime of the day/night for days now)
  • What operating system are you using?  - Windows 8
  • Your error log file. (I don't think this is connected but its the only error I could find)
  •
  • ----- C&C:Online Launcher Start -----
  • Game: C&C3
  • C&C3 Install Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\
    Started game with: "CNC3.exe "
    Caught CREATE_PROCESS_DEBUG_EVENT from C&C3. Detaching...

unfortunately... anytime of the day/night it won't connect

For example right now I can't "connect to backend server" and I see there are 3 other people who are on C&C3

As a side note... my Kane's Wrath connects fine, so why would that be?

I'm not sure, check your options.ini as suggested somewhere in the common issues topic.

And note: The status checker is not displaying the correct player number at the moment.

all I found in common issues for this topic was...

When I try to log in, I get the following error: 'Could not connect to backend server'.

Solution: This is a problem on our end, meaning the server is down. We usually restart the server soon after it goes down, so check back later.

please direct me to the solution re: options.ini or explain how I do that and I will try it     :)

I'm not sure, check your options.ini as suggested somewhere in the common issues topic.

- I have trouble connecting to people online.

Solution 1: If you own these games through The Ultimate Collection bundle, DOWNLOAD THIS to prevent connection issues to people that don't have The Ultimate Collection.

Solution 2: User Elancore has posted several images of all the correct Generals and Zero Hour settings. Take a look at them here.

Solution 3: THIS WILL NOT WORK FOR RA3. If you own the regular editions, you can try opening port 16000 in your router settings. Go here if you don't know how. Use this to check if your port was succesfully opened. Afterwards, find your game's Options.ini (for Generals and Zero Hour these can be found in "username\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data", the other games can be found by typing %appdata% in the Windows search bar and opening the game's folder there). Open Options.ini, remove the GameSpyAddress = x.x.x.x line, and add/alter the following:

FirewallBehavior = 1
FirewallNeedToRefresh = FALSE
FirewallPortAllocationDelta = 0
FirewallPortOverride = 16000

Then save Options.ini and set it to read only (right click > properties).

Solution 4: Try adding C&C:Online to your Firewall exceptions. Use Google to find out how this is done.

Solution 5: Are you using Generals or Zero Hour? If so, try opening your DMZ in your router settings. More information on how to do this can be found here.

Solution 6: Do you have hamachi, tunngle or similar services installed? Try to disable their virtual network devices and shut them down.

hope it helps.

Delete your options.ini files, the game will re-create it when launching

Then try to connect, if you succes to connect : put your files to read only.

Still fail? Now change the lines as explained above and re-set read only

What you did actually is set read acces only on a maybe buged options.ini

deleted options.ini file for both games Kane's and C&C

First attempt with Kanes Wrath - no issues online immediately

New options.ini after first attempt for Kane's Wrath

 AudioQualitySetting = High

FirewallBehavior = 1
FirewallNeedToRefresh = FALSE
FirewallPortAllocationDelta = 0
HasGotOnline = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = VeryLow
Resolution = 800 600
StaticGameLOD = VeryLow

First attempt with C&C3 - Still got "cannot connect to backend server" - Exact same login info entered for both games

new options.ini after first attemp for C&C3

AudioQualitySetting = High
HasSeenLogoMovies = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = VeryLow
Resolution = 800 600
StaticGameLOD = VeryLow

Also side note... I tried uninstalling and re-installing C&C3 as well
                            I then re-installed CNC Online

The online login process just does not seem to register at all for C&C3

Just seems to be denying C&C3 for somer reason.... :(

Still a no go... This is the current options.ini  for C&C3 since making the  recommended adjustments

AudioQualitySetting = High
FirewallBehavior = 1
FirewallNeedToRefresh = FALSE
FirewallPortAllocationDelta = 0
FirewallPortOverride = 16000
HasSeenLogoMovies = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = VeryLow
Resolution = 800 600
StaticGameLOD = VeryLow

This issue remains isolated to only C&C3... no matter what I change "cannot connect to backend server"

Delete the folder wich contains your name profile

Or make a new profile

Both way should reset everything in the choised name profile

If that still not work, then i don't know

Are you sure firewall allow tw ? All port needed open in modem/router or firewall?

You hooked your game right? Origin running in administrator?

And this have been done?

> Solution 3 (C&C3 & RA3): Go into Origin, click the game (in this case either C&C3 or RA3), click the "i" button to the left of "play", click "Game Properties" and check the box "Disable Origin in game for this game" and then launch RA3 or C&C3 via the normal C&C:Online method. (that mean unhook)

did everything and still no go...

what I dont understand is why is this happening only to C&C3?

I bought both C&C3 and Kanes Wrath from Origin, re installed them both the exact same way on my new desktop and only having this problem with C&C3...

Kanes Wrath still runs perfectly?

ok...

I un-installed everything again and re-installed...

1st - C&C3

2nd - Kanes Wrath

and finally - CNCOnline

So now my Kanes Wrath works again but still "unable to connect to backend server" with C&C3 - same  acct name, same password

 Can't understand how my expansion pack game (Kanes Wrath) works but not the main game (C&C 3)

Really strange problem

Well let's change the way we doing, look editing options.ini don't help

Try this, launch C&C3 with the cnconline launcher like usual, once game is loaded, go desktop without exit game, and re click c&c3 on the launcher, it should force your game to be redirected to cnconline server if it wasnt the case, now click multiplayer and test

NB: Deleting your KW options.ini don't affect C&C3

NB2: Reinstalling over and over again won't help neither, your game look right and the c&conline launcher patch your game succesfully (from your logfile)

NB3: Be sure your 16000 port is opened. Check here http://portforward.c...p/portcheck.htm

NB4: Try set Administrative right to C&COnline launcher and C&C3 if it's not the case

I am only user on my PC so everything is run as administrator - I specifically launched as admin just to be sure

Doesn't Kane Wrath use port 16000? If so it's open as Kane's Wrath launches and goes online with no issues

I tried the "double launch" and game just shuts down... "stopped working correctly"

I only re installed in case something was corrupt, as neither game launched after I tried compatibility test/change

Now my Kane's Wrath is working fine online once again but C&C3 still no good onlin... :(

Hook or no hook still same problem "Unable to connect to backend server" - C&C3 just does not want to connect to CNConline server for some reason

Thank you for your help so far by the way... It's just so frustrating not being able to play my favorite game against other players... ><

I have no idea what cause the problem.

If all port is opened, added all games exception to firewall in tcp&udp(this is what i do) and router/modem and antivirus(for hooking), running in administrator, hooking or not, editing options.ini, disable origin for these games. Even logfile say it patched sucessfully.

After all that -_-'

I guess you have the latest official patch installed too.

I will try to rely your problem @staff

E: Read this and look if anything look related to your problem, there is 2-3 interesting thing about TW on origin when KW work fine

Still no luck with this damn CNC3 TW

Kanes Wrath continues to work like a charm but my love is for CNC3

"Could not connect to backend server" is my curse... it just does not seem to want to connect to the new server since getting my new desktop

Even if I put in jibberish I get the same error so this leads me to believe it's somehow unavoidably re-connected to the old gamespy server...i dont know

Have explored all the options given to me thus far and still no go

I will donate $50 to this network if I can get someone to get me through this so I can play online again... skirmishes just don't cut it

I look forward to someone making this their pet project as it is a good challenge - lets start from scratch and see if we can figure this one out!
