Red Alert 3 Launching Problems

Best Answer ToxicShock, 07 December 2014 - 01:03 PM

You made the short cut and then hooked?    If you do it the other way round, the shortcut won't be hooked.   I see you've been through a lot of uninstalling but can you try that?  Unhook, delete the shortcut, make a new shortcut and then hook?

I have read the how-to thread and the common issues thread. I'm on Windows 8.1, and am having trouble with the Steam version of Red Alert 3.

It used to work perfectly and was hooked fine on the desktop shortcut, the steam menu, and the online launcher, but all of a sudden it stopped working completely. Now I can only play Red Alert 3 via the launcher manually and not any shortcuts. Otherwise it either tries to load with nothing showing up before disengaging or showing the splash screen for a few seconds before disengaging.

There is no error log in the temp files.

I've tried checking the integrity of the Red Alert 3 cache and game files, creating new shortcuts, running as administrator, reinstalling everything. Nothing worked.

Also, no notifications come up when hooking stuff.

It looks like it's broken due to some glitch in the launcher program and there doesn't seem to be a fix. Judging by the lack of response.

But the game doesn't work at all now unless I go into the folder and use the main executable file. Steam won't run it, the launcher won't, and the desktop shortcut won't.

I unhooked it and uninstalled the launcher, nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled RA3, and nothing. I have no idea what happened, but apparently I'm not alone.

Hmmm. I think that may have worked. However, weirdly, I had to redownload the launcher and hook and then unhook again, before uninstalling the launcher and making a new shortcut to get Red Alert to work. Then I redownloaded the launcher and used compatibility settings and now it works like it used to.

Thanks guys.
