whats the model for the walls ? too lazy to INI check right now
its gbcastwall.w3d for the walls
gbcastelev.w3d for the walls with the stairs
gbcastgater.w3d and gbcastgatel.w3d for right and left side of the gates...
and there is that ugly.. gbcastbrdg.w3d for the bridge that spans above the doors
and gbcastgate.w3d for the.. (very big) gate
btw.. im really lost with the *Bridge* and *gate* section... no idea how to model that .. i guess im gonna totally delete these ugly doors and make a fallgate or something... that is.. if i figure out how/where the doors are animated
was thinking about a gatehouse.. though i dont think it will be walkable...

For the gate, the idea of a fall gate is good.
Sorry i don't know the words for those, but you could try a "herse"(in french, a gate that opens vertically) or a "pont levis"(a gate that opens from vertical position to horizontal position).
The problem with a "herse" is that you have to do a tall wall if you want the gate to hide in it when opened.

Your models look really nice, they are more middle age than middle earth, and that would please more than one.

je ne vois pas ce qu'une herse apporterait réellement mis à part un joli design simpa, ce qui est de toute façon l'objectif alors en fait c'est bien
mais l'idée du pont-levis serait génial pour les forces du mal
(translation : i dont see what a "herse" would really bring to gameplay apart from cool design, which is the aim of it anyway lol
a pont-levis however would just rock and should be accessible to the FoD, so as to compensate their lack of walls )

I thought about adding water around the castle with the "pont levis", this might be of some beauty but more and again in chivalry style.
Hope it helps making up your mind.

the real problem is getting it all alligned.. since i seem to be unable to let my new models display in the worldbuilder (and yeah i did make the _w models ^^) so if anybody has an idea how to fix that .) i would be very gratefull
just want to say, this forum and its tutorial are the best out there, i couldnt have made any change i wanted without the bse tutorial .)
oh i just came to the idea.. why not make 2 doors... a fallgate, and a fallbridge .. mhh gonna test that
Edit:
Just managed to get some *kind* of gatehouse working... its a really pain getting it alligned with the rest of the walls, its walkable.. but its still WIP
Again if someone knows how to get my models to show up in worldbuilder please gimme a hint
Oh my, was bored again.. so i finished my alternate gondor wall design
Pic of the door/fallgate together with the doorhouse (to fit things in)

Oh yeah, the whole thing is part of a personal mod project for myself .) mixing morrowind story/world with lotr bfme engine .) and that mixed with a very good fantasy saga i read some time ago (no not tolkien ^^)
If someone is bored and wants to make a texture for the walls (since the current wall texture is not mine nor do i hold the copyright to it..) feel free to do so

hehe, actually the original idea was to make a very dark mood castle design, i somehow failed that, dunno why but in lotr bfme everything looks friendly *sigh* (even the orks :/ )

By the way, is the fallgate able to open ? If so, great!
Can units go on the fallgate wall ?
One last thing, the towers of the fallgate lack of something to me, like wedges (dunno if it is the right word for it) like on the walls, or a roof like the other towers and then some sort of narrow window.
Oh and a last thing again, what do you plan to do with the door? It looks like a bit strange opening in 2 parts like that, you could maybe replace it with one only door, a vertical to horizontal opening door or let the fallgate alone, what do you think?

w00t so many questions .)
Well, actually i cheated, if i were NOT lazy i would have created a second gate object and placed it over the first with different *switches* but as its now its opening together with the doors (which actually are planned to be a fallbridge but several problems stop me from doing that ^^)
Yes, the wall is walkable, its actually not that hard to do it, only doesnt look *that* good ^^ (since archers wont line up on the gatehouse wall) that said i wonder how they do it on the other walls... well anyway
Yeah, the both towers are wip ones, im still tempted to do something about them windows and stuff, what u cant see here .) u still can build battle towers in the gap between the wall towers and the gatetowers (im not happy how they look though...) they are much to large, but somehwere ye have to make a compromise with walkable/defendable and how it looks .)
Yeah back to the door again, 2 problems stop me from actually doing a *drawbridge*
1) I dont see my models in the worldbuilder nor cant i change the range of the ground that gets renderd and the one that does not, aka i would like to create a kind of water ring around the fortress (to make a fallgate practicable, but that would prevent siege towers from docking ) Maybe ill do a drawbridge just for the fun of it .P without water
2) Actually, the gondor_buildings.ini is *extremly* wierd to me, so i failed to create a *duplicated* model/object ^^
Oh yeah, letting the fallgate alone, would be workable 2 but then ... which proper medieval fantasy fortress just had a fallgate
wee so much typing .) /me is all dizzy

Second, isn't porticullis another name for fallgate??? If so then when u add a name for it and stuff, use porticullis. It sounds more... professional
