You are a soldier on the field of battle. The enimies are advancing on your position. You shoot and wound an enemy solider. He falls to the ground, and you see an enemy medic trying to treat his wounds. Would you shoot the medic?

Of course not, the enemy has already been immobilized. No sense killing the wounded. Rather move on to the creating the medics next task.

It's a war crime to kill a medic unless they pose an imminent danger to you.

It doesn't matter whether it's a war crime or not. This is war. Nobody's gonna know or care that it was you. This is a battlefield. All you need to do is say you didn't know it was a medic, or that the bullet was a stray.

There's no way a medic can treat a gunshot wound anyway. The soldier you just shot is in no uncertain terms up shit creek without a paddle unless he gets immediate hospital attention...he certainly isn't going to be fighting you for a bit.

I say pop the medic somewhere and claim it was a stray. You needn't even kill the medic. Just putting him out on his ass will do.

Reasoning? He's the enemy. If he does successfully patch the guy up, now or later, that's one man you've had to shoot down twice. Ethically and morally it's wrong, but this is war. War doesn't have ethics or morals. War is war. And as they say, all is fair in love and war.

Actually, in all likelihood, unless you're talking about Vietnam, you'd never see that person ever again. If it's a regular military, they'd spend 12 months jumping from hospital to hospital because of a gunshot wound.
Yes, you're trained to kill, but you're not trained to be executioners.

Like CJ said this is war, you cannot go through it nit picky who you should/shouldn't shoot. Its more of a case of Kill or be killed. Of coarse you have to use a degree of common sense (something that is lacking now-adays) when you are aiming at people. You cannot just run into a room fireing randomly, especially when there are civilians around.

The main problem is that the medic is treating the very person you shot, and shot for a reason. If the man is treated what's stopping him from pick up the gun again and killing either you or one of your companions?

What's stopping him? How about the two pins lined up between his eyes? Besides, he wouldn't be in a position to fight assuming the bullet hit the right spot.

Kill the medic, though? I'm still not sure on that one.

Ok I'm giving my opinion to my own question now...oh and yes you would medics now adays carry them off the field, but are also paramedics, just without the para, they make sure you are stable enough to be flown away to the nearest field hospital.
There is no such thing as an enemy medic. Why do you think they wear those red crosses? Just for looks? No. A medic is a medic for both sides. A medic is trained to heal anyone (or carry them away) that is hurt/wounded. Yes, sometimes you will see a medic with a gun, shooting at you, but they are usually treating someone, they are not trained to fight as a primary specialty. Shooting a medic of either side is basically teamkilling, you're not going to see a medic who won't heal anyone, unless they're evil =p

By international law, medics are only permitted to carry a sidearm as a personal defense weapon, but as seen in Somalia in 1993, medics often had to pick up their patients assault rifles to protect them. They do not take hippocratic oaths because it would be bad for morale, but they are expected to attempt to stabilize any wounded combatants. Chances are, if you're shot, unless it's a six or seven year war, you're never going to see combat again. There's no point to killing a medic or their patient, this isn't a video game, you're killing someone who is trying to save a life.
If you even tried it, I don't care whose side you're on, I'd shoot you.

i wouldnt kill him, if he posed no threat to me, (like if i was a sniper) i would keep him at bay if ya know. but i wouldnt kill the medic , id pick my target carefully to get the message across (officer etc)

but if he started taking pot shots at me id shoot him dead

if i shot the guy with an MG then i wunt really be caring who i shot just as long as they went down, so on that yea i would shoot the medic cos i wunt have a clue that he was one. if i could see he was a medic i would leave him. if he came at me and tried popping a cap in my white ass, i would blow the fecker sky high.

Now, here's another scenerio... (you can keep posting to the 1st one if you'd like =P)
You got a little off track from your squadren, and you're finding your way back to the battlefield. You were walking stealthily through the terrian (you are trained to do that) and you come across an enemy sniper, but he is not looking at you nor does he know you are there, he is happily camping with his rifle picking off your squadren. What would you do?

Plug his ass full of holes! No remorse at all, since what he is doing is taking out my buddies.

EDIT- And yeah. Quietly, too, since he prolly has a spotter.

In WWII medics from both sides tended to the wounded from both sides. God forbid you plug the medic who would have saved your life 30 minutes later when your position was overrun and you got shot. Next thing you know this "enemy" medic could be your best friend.

The Nazi's actually let the medics care for the Allies???

woooah summat i did not know right there. So they weren't all heartless, or did the Nazi medics just do it against orders??

I know the British helped wounded Nazi's but i just assumed with the Nazi rules being so strict that helping the Allies would be punishable by death or something

Hitler didn't lead every squad. Of course medics are older than the Nazis, it is their job to save lives. The Wehrmacht was not without honor, they, like American and British medics, did save the lives of the enemy (Except on the Eastern front in the majority of circumstances.

The Eastern front was total hell for the Russians. Poor guys were treated like dogs for defending their homeland and supporting the communists. Most of them didn't even know what communism did, exactly. They just wanted to keep the Germans away from their homes. :p
