I've been working on a BFME2 visual overhaul, to be part of Valheru's upcoming BFME2 patch. The idea is to honor the original design and silhouettes while making them look better.

Note that once these models become part of the patch, they are free for anyone to use or edit (though I appreciate getting credit).

ELVES

Elrond.jpg

Elrond + texture variation.

Thranduil render 2.jpg

Thranduil. Too bad we can't give him his awesome blades, but I think the bow works well enough. :p

Also an exception to the idea of honoring the source material. Thranduil's armor is too awesome while the original model is too weird.

Lorien Archers, HA on the left. Credit to RoR for texture base.

mirkwood render.jpg

Mirkwood Archers.

DWARVES

DAIN first render.jpg

Dain. Credit to Nazgul for the helmet and axe.

Gloin WIP.jpg

Gloin.

Axe thrower comparison.jpg

Axe Thrower ego-stroking comparison render.

Guardian comparison.jpg

Guardian.

Phalanx comparison.jpg

Phalanx.

GOBLINS

WIP render.jpg

Goblin Warrior.

gorkil WIP.jpg

Gorkil. This one is not yet approved by Valheru (and it does look very differently from the original Gorkil model), but I'm very happy with it nonetheless.

More to come.

Vastly improved on all counts, except perhaps the Axe Thrower's face is somewhat squished?

Much improved, well done. While I will not fight for it, I will appeal against the decision to keep those awful pauldrons on the Guardians.

It wasn't an easy decision, trust me. It's just that I really wanted to maintain the silhouette. :p

Very well done Mathijs as always. I love Thranduil's and Dain's faces, very well mapped.

Nicely done but I do have some comments.

The Mirkwood Archer's hoodie has wierd shadows, also I think it could use a better sort of green.
The dwarf axe-thrower has a squeezed face.
The Guardian's helmet also looks queezed on his head.

Also I would make the axe-throwers more brownish, less purple. :p

The models in Shadow of Mordor look way better than these.  They're awful and I hate you.  No... I changed my mind.  They're pretty good, and I hate you.

I quite like the shadows, personally, but I agree with your point about the Dwarves.

- Truth is that it's mostly got the same texture as the vanilla one. I don't like texturing hoods. :p

- I like his face. Perhaps I'll ask Valheru for the rigged .max file and edit the mapping though.

- I simply disagree. :p

- So would I, if I wasn't trying to keep the original look where possible.

It's just another way to get someone to tease or commit to a date, once the 'when is it being released' line hasn't worked.

There's no release date set.
