Hey everyone,

It's near the end of the month so I think it's time we fill you guys in on what's been happening.
We've converted Dol Guldur to Gundabad, and have since added:

an incomplete unit roster consisting so far of:

Spoiler

We have also added The Gundabad Patrols consisting of Gundabad Orcs and Orc Archers. And if you Build a warg pit you gain Gundabad Warg Sentries.
Spoiler

Dol Guldur Orcs have been donated by Ruudy, I've had them for a while actually but am now able to put them in-game
game_2015-07-30_18-27-34-22.jpg
Gundabad Orcs were made by Mathijs:
sshot0012.jpg
All these orcs have been rallied by the Defiler:
AZOGRENDER.png
game_2015-07-30_23-09-13-51.jpg
And here is a preview of the New Gundabad Fortress done by Mathijs
goblin_fortress.jpg
The Spell Book will remain similar to EA's Goblin faction, however this is still being discussed internally. The Base destroying powers like Summon Dragon and Balrog will be removed and replaced, with something just as interesting.
We've also added the 1.08 patch's maps and apts, allowing players to play comfortably in Widescreen!
The mod however conflicts with 1.08's code, so you'd need to switch back to 1.06 to play.
I'd also like to thank King-Thranduil for joining as an asisstant coder, without him some of this stuff would not be in-game as yet, and Mathijs and Renny for their help with art .
Thanks for Reading

Makes you wonder... is Mathijs a single user, or an umbrella account for a secret society of BFME artists?

A little feedback on the fortress tho, I would remove the lower parts of the texture (the  one that looks like the one from the vanilla fortress) or I would make the model to stick out so it would look like some sort of foundation.

Lower parts of texture look really fine in-game.I replaced the Vanilla Fortress maybe 2-3 hours ago, can't remember right now :p

I recommend placing the Gundabad inspired spires rising directly from the ground, instead of from small stands.

FYI, I had a similar concept, with the architecture of Gundabad directly placed on the Goblin fortress. I might use your idea of the design being inspired by the spires, yet created with the same scrap materials as the fortress, with your permission. =D

I had them rising directly from the ground at first, but because I also want to keep the Goblin fortress look, that ended up looking awful. The 'stands' are a means of blending the old and the new.

My god man, use some anti-aliasing. It's 2015 for crying out loud!

No but really, I'm not sure I like the transition. It looks good, but it doesn't really fit. I think it would be okay if they weren't actually supposed to 'blend', but instead be intentionally two separate portions of each spire. Or at the very least some creative changes with the coloring and lessening of the highlights. BFME2's assets are very heavy on highlights and it really stands apart from the texture work Mathijs has done on the top portions.

I actually like the idea. It looks like a good blend between vanilla goblin fortress and gundabad's architecture. It also fits in my opinion with the concept of orcs/goblins building on top of existing strutures and corrupt them to their own needs. See for instance the buildings in War in the North (I can't find appropriate pictures aside from maybe this or this tiny screenshot so I'll just assume you know what I'm talking about :p ). The only thing needed to make the transition look a bit more natural is some sort of scaffold or perhaps pieces of rusty metal connecting the top to the bottom.

The Wild Faction of BfMeII make their own structures, and don't build from existing ruins (apart from the Ettenmoors). I enjoy this model because the spires feel like Gundabad. However, these spires are goblin built, they have a similar shoddy feeling, like the fortress they are attached to (another thing I really enjoy).

New suggestion:
Perhaps a normal map (even though Mathijs would never touch such a thing) and/or colour matching the spires to the fortress? =p

Well I said it once and I will say it again.

I agree with Kwen, you either play with the colors until they match at least as tent or choose a different texture entirely.

I suppose the spire texture could be applied to some bits of the vanilla fortress (the bits that look like cobweb walls now). That's up to RoR though. I remain of the opinion that the fortress looks great the way it is now.

Okay, the more i look at the fort i dislike it somehow.Yesterday i loved it :) but today i changed my mind.Math can you at least blend these Gundabad "Blades" (if i can call them like that) with the fort,or fort with the blades?I know you did a lot For THL but this change will make Gundabad better. On Moddb some guys are complaining on the looks :p
