Hello chaps! Its been over a year but once again I happened to go on another BFME 1 nostalgia search using the internet archive. I scoured IGN today to see if there were any images or videos that may have been overlooked and eventually lost in the ether and came across some images and videos of Moria from when it was in development.

The photos aren't much to write home about but the video (in all its low quality glory) is fascinating! It shows how different the early layout of Moria was and indeed how it incorporated all those assets that end up as pink messes in the shipped game. I would love to see those assets retextured and this more movie accurate version of Moria recreated!

Anyway just thought I post those up there in case they were of interest to anybody. I'd recommend using the internet time machine though, just in case anything else is hidden away on some long forgotten site.

Cheers, Fudge

Yea, there are just so many unused Moria assets in the game.  I really want to make a Moria map at some point since I would just have a gazillion really well designed objects at my disposal.  It's a shame EA didn't invest more into using these objects.

Moria is one of my favorite maps. I always wished there was more to it. It'd be cool to have more scripted adventure maps like Moria and Amon Hen.

Nice find, definitely! :)

i think that was before the E3 (hero button on left instead of in the E3 palantir [or maybe there are on the left because there are too many] , gandalf light blue ...) i'm intresting by the strange thing in the right bottom maybe the E3 map

but the map is great :)

You can find some of these very animations in the Battle school / tutorial tab in the BFME main menu. Check the HEROES tab for instance, you can find a lot of Pre-release stuff there anyway. Personally I always considered these animations parts of the early stage of this game, and I hope that Maximan is able to include some of these in his mod. It also looks like Aragorn was supposed to have a bow back then.

I'd love to see the 'pink messes' retextured too. NJM was making a Moria map (see his Moria Cistern and Dwarrowdelf), and I believe the extra pieces would be fantastic for mappers. However, I don't understand how they are textured? They seem to use two textures, one with the material and one with the colour (baked light). The same is true for the Barad-dur model.

P.S. I don't think it is beyond me to properly retexture them if I open them up in Blender and paint new textures. I remember that Radspakr had retextured Moria modules in Lone Wolf.

He did, but the "baked light" you described was a tad too dark xD, therefore they didn't fully fit with the standard Moria props.

Well I have even more weirdness from the troughs of the internet. I've got a bunch of videos and screenshots from some of the art department who worked on both BFME games. There are quite a few I haven't seen before. Legolas's Mumakil execution is new to me, and bits of the 'recut BFME II video' I don't remember. There's also a demo reel which has some BFME II animations around halfway through. I also came across the BFME II inside the battle clips, which I didn't even know existed! However I have't included them as I imagine most people have seen them. Anyway just thought i'd stick these up for anyone who's interested!

How do you even find these things? Very much appreciated btw thanks!

P.S. Could you perhaps also include those BFME2 inside the battles? I don't think I have seen them before :).

Good I'm glad they're of use! Here's the link to the company that edited the inside the battle videos http://migranteditors.com/flash.html. I couldn't for the life of me just get a direct link to the embedded video unfortunately - very annoying website.

Thank you very much! I fully agree the site is terrible to use, but the inside the battles are pretty awesome!
