I've installed patches 1.06 and 1.09 for BfME2, I added an options.ini file with appropriate settings, and I downloaded a new game.dat to allow me to play without a CD, but when I try to start BfME2, I get a "program has stopped responding" popup. Any ideas?

Are you running as admin?
Are you sure the options.ini is a .ini file and not a .ini.txt? Is it in the correct directory?

For if a question be in itself incongruous and begs for uncalled-for answers, it holds, sometimes, besides embarrassing the proposer, the disadvantage to seduce the unguarded listener into giving absurd answers, and we are presented with the ridiculous spectacle of one (as the ancients said) milking the he-goat, and the other holding a sieve beneath."

I checked the options.ini file, it is in fact a .ini, I made sure the game was being run in admin, and I'm pretty sure that options.ini is in the right directory. Just to double check, could you tell me what the directory is? I'm pretty sure it's C:\Users\(my username)\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth II Files

That sounds about right.

And try win xp sp3 compatibility mode.

I tried doing that, and it didn't work. I tried reinstalling just to make sure, and it's still having the same problem. Something I forgot to mention in the last post I made was that sometimes, I get two popups that say "Fatal exception in exception handler". Just wanted to tell you in case that helps narrow down what the problem is.

I downloaded a fresh game.dat just to make sure, and it still didn't work. Just to make sure, am I supposed to copy the game.dat and bfme2.nfo straight into The Battle For Middle-earth II, or am I supposed to put the whole folder those files originally came from into The Battle For Middle-earth II? The method I've used up to this point is the former, rather than the latter.

I understand that the old game.dat needs replaced. I'm asking if I should put the new one in BfME2 while inside the folder it came in, or sans folder.
