Why would an art teacher discourage you from using all those?

That's weird. Only thing I was discouraged from was the only real colouring implement I like most: Felt tip pens. I just love using them as they're more even than pencils (plus don't need to sharpen the buggers every 5 seconds), less messy and hard to use as paints, less ugly than pastels and more fun than all the above.
'Oh no you can't use those' was all I got when I was in Y7,8 and 9. I didn't take art to GCSE :p
Other than that, I agree with you Xeno. I won't touch them because of school :p

Yeh thats true, however the fact that we didnt use them was because of the fact that the school was too tight to actually buy some new ones. the ones we had must've been about ten years old.

and like you im not voting. both are as good as each other.

I vote for digital art, because i manly use 2d and 3d programs and don't draw as much as i used to, but all 4 forms are very powerfull if used by a skilled person.

Yeah true I figured someone would respond with that and you are correct it still uses pixels for the final render but the models you make is differnt from creating a paint image from a paint app. I feel that way at least. But I could be wrong.

Pretty much anyone can learn how to use Photoshop... it takes true talent to sit down and create a masterpiece with nothing but a pencil and rubber.

It does. The Tanaran (which is visible here somewhere) is my best work with a pencil...I had another good one, but I sent it in a letter so I can't really post it lmao.

No, I freely admit my drawing sucks :D I'm better at writing :p

Pixels are my friends, when I draw sometimes it comes out good and I like it a lot but it's not likely to happen as much as it does with pixels, I love photoshop and image ready woot

I now retract my claim of being crap with pencil and paper. I have now gotten back into drawing some sketches and so have realised that i do have some form of talent...

...well more than on the PC

Paper ofcourse, all since the humans excist we draw by hand, so, I mean computer art only gives u RSI, and its too easy... i dont see you drawing a Van Gogh with a Computer right? So paper, The Awnser is paper, even all designs of EA started on paper and came into the game, so... my decision is clear PIXELS (just kidding)

i chose pixel. Photoshop is the main thing that i do on my computer. I am no good at drawing simple images from the top of my head, however i am a little better a copying another artists style and drawing the pic that they have done. (in otherwords, copy without tracing paper. lol.)

Actually if you can do that, what difference would it be to take something, anything you see around you, be it an object, a bunch of objects, scenery, photos, and put it onto paper? To be able to draw things from memory you'd need to first store up a sort of visual library in your head anyway, it's like recalling something you read before - knowledge and understanding. To put it simply, practice is all it takes if you have the interest.

I voted pixel, but I also can draw or paint on paper. Also tablet is better than mouse (even big tablet where is lame working area as whole screen). Gimp and Project Dogwaffle are good tools (I am trying to use freeware).

Me too. I suck at any computerized or non-computerized art. Prefer film over digital, though.

I used to be {AE}Manveru, if that rings a bell.
