Tool
Nine Inch Nails
Radiohead
Queens of the Stone Age
Nirvana
System of a Down
Now some oldies you forgot:
The Who
David Bowie
The Cure
The Clash
Also I have to dissagree with the Darkness on that list. They just copied the 80s Glam Rock. Did nothing origional themselves. Will probably be forgotten in 10 years. Also I wonder if Jet really deserves to be listed. And I personally dont like Bon Jove but that is another thing.

I wouldn't fully agree with Bowie in this section. Though the guy HAS done SOME rock-ish type stuff, his style utterly changes with each album. I suppose there's nowhere to put him, but I guess glam rock was a convenient place for most people to place him.

I said "Queens" not Queen. As in QOTSA, obviously nobody from Queen has ever gotten me a drinkQueen practically invented the genre. Or at very least, made it popular. I don't recall, but I think just about every song they made was actually awesome. It's just that Bohemian Rhapsody and Don't Stop Me Now stick out.
So how do you define "Alternative"?

Bowie is indeed hard to classify. But his 60s and 70s stuff is definately rock. Take a look on how many bands are inspired by his work, you cant deny him as a great influence for Rock.
Did you ever meet QOTSA Jeeves, you sound like you did..
