Hello everyone, and welcome to the topic for:

DESERT DOORWAY DEFENDERS

A little map I've been working on for the past few days. Please feel free to ask any questions about the map, which will be the first AOD style map I've made.

A little info you ask?
Well, ok :p

1. The map is AOD, so you need to keep the enemy away from an area, in this case, the desert.
2. You start out with 2 bases, and only one has an airfield.
3. You have to fight your way through 3 types of waves, Non Combat, Combat, and Heavy Combat. Each of these uses a different strategy that you will have to counter in a certain way.

FAQ

Q: How many waves are there?
A: There are 5 waves, a mini boss, another 3 waves, and the boss, adding up to 10.

Q: What determines how I lose?
A: How many waves have made it to the desert. Only 2 can reach it without you losing.

Q: What happens if I don't lose any chances at all?
A: A little secret happens, but if you don't win there, you lose.

Q: Why are you making this map?
A: Because I'm tired of all those AOD maps that many players can't play (or beat alone) due to the fact that they can't play online for some reason.

Q: Is this map for PR only?
A: Yes. PR is the only mod with the units in it I need to make it challenging, yet possible to beat at the same time.

Q: What's AOD mean?
A: AOD stands for Art Of Defense, where an enemy attacks relentlessly for a few minutes, trying to get rid of a specific unit or reach a certain area.

Q: What are there 3 types of waves like?
A: Well, a Non Combat wave will simply try to get to the desert, while a Combat wave will be created a few seconds before a Non Combat wave and try to distract you by fighting you. A Heavy Combat wave will do both, but a LOT better than if a regular Non Combat wave and a regular Combat wave were put together.

Q: When will the map be ready?
A: Quite soon.

Q: How soon?
A: Soon, ok?

Q: Final Question. When will the next demo be available?
A: Right now.

If that didn't answer all of your questions, feel free to ask them in this topic.

Thanks.

EDIT:

NEW VERSION READY

This may be only V .7 (up from .6), but it's a LOT better. I have figured out a good portion of the modifications. They include:

Tunnel Network for USA - Makes a Ranger and Missile Defender instead of Tunnel Defenders (took a while to figure out)!
Laser Battery for USA - Takes 5 power up instead of 3
POW Truck - Has 5 garrison slots and can make drones (taken from GC_IronSide be DeeZire)
Dozer - Builds the two buildings above, had the second command set removed, and got the stop button
Air Field - Builds Chinooks
Strat Center - Holds cluster bomb (instead of the GPS Station), lost Supply Lines
Supply Center - Holds supply lines, lost chinook production.

I have somewhere between 100 and 250 lines of code in the map.ini, and i will state this simply:
DO NOT CHANGE IT
If you do, it will not work (unless you can make a map.ini like mine yourself).

And that's all so far, but that's not all the new stuff

The enemy will upgrade nuclear tanks, subliminal messaging, and more! (WOW)
There are a few map redisigns to make it more realistic. Now there are trees and small hills. Also, a war factory is much cooler looking now, but I'm not revealing why :p

No more waiting!
Here ya go!

00 Nobody.
I have been playing this map and ave come across a problem. The first 5 waves come, then there is nothing for almost 10 minutes now. Other than that, I have run into no other problems. Good job (I also especially like the patriot missiles in the fire bases, though you can still garrison troops inside...and, well, the guys shouldn't be inside the patriot missiles ^_^ )

Oh, ok. Then there are no problems currently. Though, you cannot set a rally point from the war factory in the "Outpost". Don't know why, but you can't. Mind you it is really fun already. Might I suggest that there be a short (1 min) break between the waves and the bosses, so you have time to prepare for the mini-boss and the final boss ;) . Prep time is good.

It's not like you can't build stuff during the waves though, right? ;)

True, but the wait time kinda makes you feel prepared....then you have most stuff trashed by the bos/mini-boss. Then you panic as you try to hold back the remainder of the waves.

That's kinda the idea behind the 'no breaks to speak of' in DDD. The other is that one type of wave is mostly a distraction.

You need to make a map.ini and change the CommandSets for units. Try looking at the one in Desert Doorway Defenders to learn how to do it.

make a .txt file in the map folder, and name it map.ini. Remember, it should not have .txt, it should have .ini instead. It will ask if you want to change the filename extension, say yes, and WHAMO! You've got a file to change a map with. Now remember, you have to get all the names PERFECT for it to work and not crash the game. Most of the time I spent on the BattleTanx maps (after BattleTanx 2 Director's Cut anyways) was spent on making the map.ini work. You have to be careful. That's why you should use FinalBIG to make sure it's right.
