Thought I'd start that good faction thread that GothmogtheOrc suggested!

Anyway...

My Gondor Rangers (in my mod - I dont actually have any real Gondor Rangers!) have a "Volley of Arrows" ability that allows them to fire a small volley of fire arrows anywhere on the map.

Long re-load times and minimal damage to heroes etc. apply here, but useful against seige machinery and bunches of units.

This can be interesting when used with Elrond's "Gift of Forsight" (which is basically a mini palantir power), because you can aim for Isengard mines... (forces your opponents to think twice about placement of units/heroes etc!).

Hebblewhite.

P.S. Your turn Zimoo!

I come back to find excellent progress and the return of Hotlicker!

:p
So ideas ehh?

I've been reading the books, we need to have some form of hobbit fighting in this!
A sub-faction, I don't know if one is in the making though.....but the hobbit archers in the end of the ROTK should be included, about 50 arrows in about 3 seconds in the back of an evilman........cool.

The Explosive Arrow still seems good to me though, Lurtz has a lvl 8 Power that he gets after you get a lvl 2 Seige works, it has the power of an Explosive mine, long reload time.

All going along with the industrial powers of Saruman and his "fire to break stone".

Grond is a need of course.

Good side.....I mentioned an upgrade to the Citadel of Gondor after you have a Gandalf the White and it automatically shoots an Istari light if a Nazgul approaches, nasty lil surprise ehh?

I'll have more later.
remember I have no idea if any of this is already planned in the mod.

How about giving Rohan Archers the ability to fire over walls. Not sure how you would want to implement it... perhaps as a single-use ability (with respectable re-load time).

It could help to improve Rohan defense without having to add seige based units etc.

EDIT: An alternative way of deploying it could be through the use of formations. Some kind of "defensive fire" toggle that needs to be active before units can fire over the wall.

I like that idea, obviously they'd need to be a hell of a lot less accurate when doing that though.

I have some suggestions for the Gondor heroes Beregond, Damrod, Mablung and Madril concerning hero abilities. All of which have only 2 abilities each and can be bought for 800 resourses, whereas Pipin can be bought for 100 resourses and yet he has 3 special powers even if they are subtle ones. I was thinking that just one extra power could be added to the heroes mentioned above:

* Mablung
o Weapon toggle Sword/bow
o Heavy Hand (Heavy sword attack) (lvl 2)
o Stealth emitter (gives nearby units stealth) (lvl 4)

* Damrod
o Weapon Toggle
o Treachery (Wounding Arrow type power that hurts evil men units badly)
o Arrows of Ithilien (increases arrow damage by 60% for 30 secs)

* Madril
o Counselor (leadership bonus to Faramir: +75% Experience) (lvl 1)
o Leadership (+50% Experience to Rangers) (lvl 2)
o Train Archers ( just like legolas's power) (lvl 5)

* Beregond
o Tower Guard Leadership (+50% Damage, +50% Armor to Tower Guard) (level 2)
o Captain of the White Company (bonus when near Faramir: +50 Damage, +50% Armor) (lvl 3)
o Guardian of the Steward (expeience bonus when near denethor) (lvl 5)

And thats it.
I will remember Rhovanion Alliance, RIP .

Beregond is not the chief of the tower guards though, the only way he differed from every other TG is that he befriended Pippin.

Tower Guards however, were greatly respected by the lower class of the Gondorian military.

The reason behind that descrepancy is that the gondor heroes are stronger and do more damage then pippin, thus they cost more. Pippin has more powers though because he is a main character that people will want to use. Also each faction gets one cheap scouting unit: Pippin, Merry, Grishnakh, and the Crebain.

Also, pippins powers currently are nowhere near as good as those mini-heroes powers. Though I think there is another upgrade he gets that isn't on his power list right now... I believe I decided to make an attack bonus called "Trolls Bane" that would be at about lvl 5 that gives him a higher damage. In any event the mini-heroes are better to have in battle then pippin.

That's why they are that way :crazed:

Howcome Gamling isn't a Horse archer hero like in the films? I've noticed that Rohan has no archer heros.

Ah, I didn't realize rohan had no archer heroes... I'll need to look at this and decide what I want to do about it.

At the most rohan will have one hero who has either a weak bow toggle or perhaps is a weaker mounted archer. Rohan was not known for their archers so if they have an archer hero he will be weaker then the other factions archer heroes. It also isn't necessary for rohan to have an archer hero since Mordor doesn't have one and Isen only has Lurtz. Gondor, which was once widely known for their elite archers, has Faramir, Mablung, Damrod (3 rangers), and Legolas (fellowship member only on gondor to be with aragorn).

My initial thought is that I'll make gamling an archer when mounted but a normal swordsmen on foot. Though I need to check and see if this has been done before (I think it has somewhere... tea maybe?) and whether or not it would be possible to do with the existing models I have. We'll see if this works out.

Just a small idea,hobbits could ride on back of stronger heroes e.g faramir(could be sort of garrisoned like a tower they dont cause extra dameg just to get them to places faster

Except merry who can mount at level 8

Certainly, I agree that while rangers should be one of the best archers they shouldn't be better then elves.

As for the hobbits, I don't know if it's possible to code them to ride with other heroes... and as I don't especially want to do it, it probably won't happen.

Thanks for the suggestions though :)
