So, there's the lovely crates.ini with everything (or almost everything) commented out.

Has anyone experimented with this yet? I haven't gotten a chance (computer I'm on now can't run it).

Not really. But what I do know is that the game will have randomly generated crates, like older C&Cs.

Yes, you can turn the option off or on but in the demo it isn't avaible (press New Skirmish and look at the Rules menu).
Please, if you see a mistake in my posts - spelling, grammar, punctuation, or whatever else - point it out. How can one learn from mistakes, if one is not corrected?

My bet's on also other stuff like it was the case in older C&Cs, but it's only a guess.

That crates INI is probably useless. It doesn't contain any data on the crates that will be in C&C3, just tag explanations. Even then, it seems to be from the salvage crates in Generals rather than powerup crates.

There's a little bit about crates in cnc3.str.

TOOLTIP:Crates

// context: Help text . Bonus crates are left behind when some units are destroyed. They provide extra resources, armor, or fire power to the player who captures it.

"Bonus crates"

END

IDB:000_GDI_Internal_Memos_131_GDI_Logistics_Crates_title

"Logistics Crates: Targets of Opportunity"

END

IDB:000_GDI_Internal_Memos_131_GDI_Logistics_Crates_header

"Memo from Supply Sergeant Brock Littleford"

END

IDB:000_GDI_Internal_Memos_131_GDI_Logistics_Crates_body

"Both GDI and Nod rely on mobility and rapid deployment for success. Armies seem to come and go all the time as the balance of power shifts, often very quickly. Given the haste with which these operations are conducted, it's not a surprise that a lot of equipment is being left behind. Our Blue Zones and Yellow Zones are becoming littered with logistics crates filled with military spares, data cores, and other equipment and supplies. Both sides use the modular G-771G container, a standard crate used by the commercial shipping industry for decades. You'll find these containers everywhere - and they should be considered targets of opportunity for our boys in the field. If your troops crack one of these containers open, odds are they'll find something useful. G-771G containers are easy to spot: just look for geometric gray crates trimmed with diagonal stripes. They stick out like a sore thumb and anyone can pop them open with a bit of elbow grease."

END

IDB:000_GDI_Internal_Memos_131_GDI_Logistics_Crates_footer

"Good hunting."

END

Also, two parts where commandos comment on what might be in the crates.

If I get time later, I'll try looking into this more.

Also, shouldn't this be in the shiny new editing forum? (edit: sneaky topic movers)

You can turn the crates option on by editing Skirmish.INI, found in (not My Documents)...
%homepath%\Application Data\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars Demo\Profiles\[Your_Profile]
On the first line, see the coloured bits...

RU=1 100 10000 0 0 10 0 1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1

In red, this is the StartingCash, modify at will.
In blue, we have the crates option. 0=Off 1=On, default is zero.

I have to admit to play the campaign, and when it finished not realising that there was a seperate mission you could complete in Egypt. I was under the impression that there was only 1 mission you could do.

On the mission in Egypt I came across at least 3 crates, two to the north by the Tiberium field, and 1 to the south below the EMP cannon type thing.

Good find, Mortal. Do you know if one of those numbers is connected to house colors? I'll bet one is...

Editing the skirmish.ini file to allow crates does work, some don't appear to do/give anything but I've come across one or two giving 1000$ and several giving a rank increase :) . I assume in the full game game there will be the usual selection; armour, firepower, heal, free superweapon shot etc...
