Well, topic title says it all: I've been wondering... when do RA2 and YR actually take place? Somewhen in the 70's? The 80's? Answers backed by official documentation would be appreciated...

Actually, Revora can be about anything. 
AFAIK, there is no set date, just any time after 1946.

Red Alert 2 is set in 1972, Romanov is the Succeder of Stalin from RA1 (who was killed in RA1, which was set in 1953) YR is set some months after RA2.

Just watched the final Allied movie in RA2. It does indeed say 1972.
Realism is so overrated it isn't even funny. You already know what happens in reality, how is that entertaining...?

I'm extremely surprised. Everything that goes in the game does not in any way look like the 70s. How extremely odd!
I thought it all took place in modern time around the 90s on to the 21st century.
