Strange bug

Ive been happily playing though one of the campaigns as the empire, and just recently every battle i participate in i cannot select any of my units. Have any of you guys experienced anything similar?
I've gotten some troubles selecting fighters sometimes, I try to select all my fighters, and the computer will only let me select about half to three quarters of them. Then I try shift clicking them into it and it won't do it.
Sometimes when I try select all, the computer will deselect fighters/bombers if they came from a capitol ship that I just deselected...

That's a game engine thing. There's a limit on how many you can select at once with double clicking.I've gotten some troubles selecting fighters sometimes, I try to select all my fighters, and the computer will only let me select about half to three quarters of them. Then I try shift clicking them into it and it won't do it.

However, there's a workaround. Instead of trying to shift combine individual fighters, form two seperate groups and bind them to hotkeys (Ctrl+1, crtl+2) and then shift-combine the groups together (1, Shift+2). That lets you get everything into one group.
As for the other thing (OP), I've never had that happen.

And PR games take quite a while to complete now, huh?

Anyways, if in mid-battle, and you can no longer select units, try right-clicking anywhere, then try again.
Edit: Die, rogue spelling error!

I thought this thread had an answer, but it doesn't seem to be the one I was thinking of. Oops.

Not really... try saving and then loading the save. May not be an ideal workaround, but it's better than nothing as long as it works.

I have the same problems on the Imperial side, after an x amount of turns, i begin to loose the ability to highlight units and give them orders, everything else seems to work fine, other than not being able to select units and give them orders. Tried the save and reload solution, but it stick with the saved games, has there been anything done with this bug? Been through several pages on here and didn't find anything.

If you're saving mid-battle, and reloading from there, I think the problem will persist. You'll probably have to reload some Galactic Mode save. I think the game autosaves before and after every battle, if I remember correctly. Or maybe just after. So the most you'll probably have to do is a bit of empire management. If that's what you're doing...Then I can't help you...

You can't select anything in tactical? From what I can tell, it's a problem that only crops up in EaW when your system is overtaxed. I've had it before after doing lots of heavy lifting in 3ds Max, Photoshop, the Map Editor, etc. Simply restarting and cleaning up some of your background processes before loading PR may do the trick... otherwise, you might have to look at upgrading.
If you're talking about not being able to select so many squadrons simultaneously, that's a another problem entirely. There seems to be some kind of hard cap limit built into the engine with using the selection box - a pretty dumb design choice. If I had to guess, the reason it's so pronounced in PR is because it's counting individual units... and we have 12-unit squadrons. You get the idea. I don't think there's anything we can do about it, so you'll just have to select a few units at a time and shift them into numeric groups.

I could probably do different types of fighters to different groups to enhance my strategies, but usually my battles are just too large-scale to worry about whether or not my fighters are engaging the enemy correctly (Strong dogfighters keeping the enemy busy while interceptors do slashes). Plus, I enjoy getting anti-fighter ships and letting them loose, rather than depending on my fighters to provide cover.

I used to make one big fighter group, one big bomber group, and a few capital ship groups. Lately I've been experimenting with mixed fighter and capship groups more and more. Started grouping most or all of a ship's carried craft with the ship itself and selecting individual ships in the tactical bar at the bottom of the map as needed.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit it but I've been trying out West End Games' old Imperial Sourcebook Navy Line organization a bit (i.e. attack, heavy attack, reconnaissance, pursuit, skirmish, troop and bombard lines). It's kinda cool in a very geeky way.

I too have been trying the old Navy Lines. At least now I have company in geekdom.I play with Star Destroyers and other ships with lots of carried craft alot and what I tend to do (though it takes a really long time) is wait at the edge of the map and add each new unit to the desired control group manually as they launch. It takes a long time to "deploy the fleet" but I find that it's worth it b/c I'm not struggling to get the right units in the heat of battle.

Right, I don't even know if I got the keys right - my fingers just do it after all these years .I use ctrl+double-click to assign all fighters to group one and all bombers to group two.
Perhaps it has nothing to do with squadrons and everything to do with nonsensical magic numbers then (i.e. numeric literals in the code for you non-computer scientists - selection = 10, or something). When using large carriers, even that hits the selection limit a lot.
See, that makes for really bad gameplay. I hate that. I almost wish we had a way to do Rebellion-style color groups for starfighters. As poor of an interface feature as that is (being totally decided by the engine), I think it would be better than what we now have.I play with Star Destroyers and other ships with lots of carried craft alot and what I tend to do (though it takes a really long time) is wait at the edge of the map and add each new unit to the desired control group manually as they launch. Hah, that is cool, given that PR is really the first game able to simulate that in real-time. How well does it work in practice?I'm almost embarrassed to admit it but I've been trying out West End Games' old Imperial Sourcebook Navy Line organization a bit (i.e. attack, heavy attack, reconnaissance, pursuit, skirmish, troop and bombard lines).

Meh. Not good . Not bad. Indifferent. It's a decent way of organizing the sorts of small groups (technically I typically use 1-5 Star Destroyer Lines and maybe one small heavy attack line in my combats) which the Imperial player in an EAW/FOC campaign needs to overcome the modest Rebel forces that the AI tends to put together in Galactic Conquest.
